"I don't even think the issue is who should be the next coach. The issue is there should be a coach," Arena said. "If I was hiring the president of IBM he would be hired already. It doesn't take that much time to hire a national team coach."
....
"The program has not moved forward as much as it should because of that, so that's what I'm critical of," Arena said. "I invested eight years into that thing and, despite the results of the last World Cup, we had a steady climb and it has to keep going that way, and it doesn't move forward the way it can when there's so much in doubt.
"In the history of the world, I don't think it's taken that long to hire a national team coach."
....

I think these are fresh quotes, although BA's sentiments on this are well known. I assume everyone here agrees that we're in an unhappy situation at the moment, even if we disagree about what should be done to resolve matters.
Feel free to tell us what should be done, but I would like to hear predictions about what will be done (i.e. who will be chosen) and when.
Bradley or not Bradley, and if not who?
Announcement in February (;)), March, April, May, June, July, August or later ()?
I'd make this a poll if (a) I cared about the numbers - I don't, it's the comments that interest me; and (b) I knew how. :o

At this point, I would be mildly surprised if it's not Bradley. He won't be officially hired until after Sunil fails to get his new Euro-crush (Houllier? Rijkaard?) to sign on. So I'd say Bradley sometime around mid-May.

This is Bruce lobbying for his friend. As he is no longer involved in US Soccer, it's none of his business.

Of course he's involved in US Soccer. Every MLS coach is at some level.
And he's right. The USMNT needs to have a non-"interim" coach. We're allegedly a top 20 FIFA team. It's ridiculous that the president of the federation hasn't officially named a head coach yet.

Is it any of our business?
Every journalist who covers US Soccer knows Bruce is opinionated and makes for good copy, so they ask him his feelings on the subject. What do you want him to say?

Agreed.. I am happy he still shows a lot of pride in the program. You can tell he still very much wants us to succeed.

As is often the case, Bruce is right. As is also often the case, Bruce fails to understand what he should say given his position and fails to understand how it should be said to bring about the desired effect. Brutal honesty is not always the best course of action......

Bruce is right. It's a ridiculous situation. Pick a coach. If he doesn't get the results, fire him, and pick another coach. But at least have a coach all the time. With "interim", there is no coach.

who cares. remove the interim tag from bradley's title. find a new coach in a few months, then fire bob.
i doesn't matter if you fire an interim coach or a non-interim coach.
"this contract may be terminated by either party at will."
yup...that should take care of things....

Hiring Bradley now would give comfort to our enemies.

I think it's important to listen to the most successful coach the US has had.
Yeh, he's provocative, outspoken, opinionated, and snide.
Why was it that he was fired and Bradley made the coach?
Is Bradley better than Arena?
Would the same players (more or less) under Arena have fared worse vs Denmark and Mexico?
Make Bradley the real coach, Sunil, and say it was just a lateral move because Arena may be better than Bradley but had been fatally fired?
Arena could have remained the USMNT leader. There was no reason to switch to a foreign coach or an interim one.
Sunil, it's all about the players.

All coaches are interim, with or without the tag.

Good post but it isn't only brutal honesty when it comes to BA.
He has proven that well over the last several months. Ego, vanity, lack of self perception, supreme arrogance and self deusion all are involved.

are actually american fans happy with your "interim" coach?
and how happy are USMNT players with him?
is that sure that he is only "interim" coach or do you want new coach for world cup 2010?
what´s is american point view on this things.
P.S maybe David Beckham could become new coach. He looks at least pretty cool and it will draw attention from anyone to watch US soccer:)

No US Soccer is an organization he is no longer part of. He's entitled to his opinion, like we are. I actually agree with him, however it might be better for him to not announce it to the press.

who? a coach hired by Gulati and US Soccer.
when? when they very well please.
deal with it.
BA needs some patience. yes it's nice that he wants a team he guided for 8 years to be put in good hands, but his argument that this delay is hurting the program doesn't hold much water. Bradley and Nowak are doing a fine job.
would it have been better if Gulati had a qualified coach lined up right when he opted not to renew Arena's contract? sure, but that wasn't the case.
i'm annoyed by RB's delay in signing a second DP, but since i have no control over that, i'll not worry about it.
sounds a bit to me like Arena wants to be US Soccer Prez some day.

After all the countless articles and discussion on this topic, there is still one fundamental question that I have yet to see answered sufficiently.
Why is it taking so long to hire a coach?
It just doesn't make sense.
