Who is better, is clearly not in doubt, as Drogba is currently having the best season of his career.

Who is better, in the course of playing careers is also not in doubt, as Drogba is far back in Shevchenkos shadow.

Shevchenko is in the twilight of his stellar career - how much 'time' can he be afforded, as each passing month sees the natural diminishment time will have on a footballers skills?
It's clearly not logical to think we at Chelsea will ever see the Shevchenko of Milan for any extended period of time.

Like?

Football fans are fickle and firmly entrenched in the "what have you done for me lately" crowd.

Drogba is better right now than Shevchenko has ever been at any point in his career.

I disagree.

When Shevchenko was with Kiev, let alone his glory years with Milan, he was just as good as Drogba is right now...for several seasons!

actually, to add to Clan's post, most people didn't even really know about him when he played for DK. He was THE best player of FSU by far at that time. To say that Drogba is better now than Sheva ever was is a bit ignorant.

just a quick google result will get you this:

Drogba has some way to go.

That said, I don't believe we will ever see that Sheva or the Milan's Sheva, but thanks to our great squad, we don't have to. As long as he and Drogba can play alongside one another and produce goals, I'm happy with that.

Shevchenko to me is looking better as the season rolls on. Will he ever be worth the money we paid for him? Probably not. Will he score some important goals for us, and have a strong run with this club? I think so, if he sticks around. My question is still at what cost? I still long for the days of our 451/433(never thought Id say that) especially when cole and Robben are both fit. Will we ever see Robben/Cole/Drogs/Sheva at the same time? Probably not under Mourinho, and certainly not with this CM log jam.

I think he will be a very good player in these cup runs for us, scoring some big goals, and lifting his game to what it used to be on occasion(kind of like Crespo did at times last season), but using him day in and day out in the league doesn't seem wise or necessary(when we have healthy wingers).

Of course he could make this whole point moot, by either:

leaving or coming out next season and scoring 30 goals.

Drogba is the leading Champions League scorer this season too, and has a good record in Europe for his career

Right now it's Drogba, no doubt.

Over the span of their careers, it's Sheva.

I really think that Sheva is starting to warm up the the EPL, and next year could be a great year for him. Especially seeing him lately. I think he's starting to gel with his teammates, starting to adapt his game to England, and just overall starting to get more comfortable. If he's with Chelsea next year, he'll be good, if not awesome.

I would have worded that the other way. Drogba is scoring goals for fun this season but can he reproduce his form next season? sheva has perfromed at that level for several seasons.

Shevchenko is clearly better but Drogba is currently in the form of his life. Considering your league position you cannot risk to take time to get Shevchenko back to his best. So as much as it pains me to say this, Drogba all the way.

At the moment, Drogba is the best striker in the world. So really, not much of an issue.

Best or in-form (or do you consider both to be the same)?
