Probably within the next year or 2, if he keeps showing the form he does for Blackburn of course.

The problem is his primary position seems to be the right wing, and we have Gerrard, Lennon, Wright-Philips and even Beckham (if the paper talk is to be believed) ahead of him in McClarens reckoning.
I have said before I wouldn't mind seeing him given a chance on the left, as he can use his left foot and that might be his best chance to get in the squad.

Bentley deserves a chance, a good player even if he does play with his head down a little too much for my liking.
Personally im more interested in the progress of David Dunn at Blackburn. If he can stay fit he is a MUST for the squad on technical ability alone, regardless of form IMO.
Im still convinced that somewhere in that crippled & overweight body of his there is a player of Gazza like potential, albeit without the burst of acceleration

Bentley needs to be more consistent. Right now I'd probably give Milner at Newcastle a chance ahead of him.

I'd be willing to give him a half in a friendly.
My gut feeling though, is that he's not ready for international football.

When is David Bentley going to get called up to the squad?
When he joins a big club. Unfortunately he does not and was not lucky enough to play at middlesbrough. Sad but true.

Managed to start 3 games since moving to Blackburn, he really is due a period free from injury.
Nice pass over the top by for Mccarthy which lead to the second penalty on Sunday...

I thought his best position was just off the main striker? Arsenal sold him because they had Bergkamp there instead and it was a no brainer?
He can play anywhere in midfield though, and he certainly doesn't lack self-belief. He's an arrogant little so-and-so, which can be seen as a good thing.
He's a skillfull player, but whether it would be worth his while trying for England is debateable. Saying that, he's got more to his bow than Jenas or SWP..............

He's essentially the bionic-Beckham, they've taken a little bit off and added some pace, made him adaptable. I'm not English but I think England as a team are trying to move on to a post-Captain Beckham era, and Bentley doesn't fit that mold, however I wouldn't mind an ex-Arsenal lad playing for England.

If he can prove to be even better next season then there's no reason why he shouldnt get capped. He should aim at scoring more goals and adding mor assists to his name. so far so good. however, knowing Sven the II, I dont think he'll get called up even if starters play horribly.
