Twenty years later and when I hear "China" I still find myself saying "With my wife... Morgan Fairchild...Yeah, that's the ticket!"

Not that the fans are undeserving, but that is a disappointment that the Nat team plays a match in that crap undersized stadium.

I wait for the day where I don't have to choose between club and country! Stay here in So Cal to watch Galaxy and only watch part of this friendly on tv or trying to get up to Nor Cal to see the Nats but miss my Galaxy. Well, this is prep for Gold Cup so Galaxy would be missing some key players. I could always just not show bias to one side and stay home to watch both on tv.

Maybe I'll just wait until an official announcement is made before I get all worked up.

Lewis Wolff and John Fisher are currently working on getting a nearby remedy for that by 2009. ;)

I suspect that the place is relatively cheap to rent out, and perhaps close to a center of the ethnic population of whomever we're playing.

Didn't realize computer nerds are considered an ethnic population.

Excellent news! I'll be there with wife and friends in tow. I'm not excited about the opponent but they are better than some of the competition we'll see in the Gold Cup. Well, that is, if they bring a good squad. It's obviously marketing that's involved here since the bay area has a large Asian population. Funny though, I think most of the Chinese here are from Taiwan and HK, not necessarily mainland China. And yes, I'm hoping the Quakes come back to San Jose. He's done good things with the A's and I'm hoping he works his magic with the Quakes.

Hopefully, the US will draw the Gold Cup group that starts out in LA and it will be a fun June.

Funny how that works in countries where most people aren't allowed to leave.

isn't china preparing for the big asian tourney this summer, so they're likely to have their A guys??

so the rumor is late may, scotland on the east coast, followed by june 2 on the west coast...

so usa gets placed at home depot??

I certainly see what you mean and understand what is happening in that country. My parents are from Vietnam, as bad or worse than China in terms of human rights. I would say that there is a decent sized mainland population, here on work visas, as asylees, and family members bringing over. I just think it's ironic that China is coming here, and wonder if the Chinese community here will come out and if so, who do they support?

I sure hope so...how stupid would it be to play a friendly on the west coast only to start a tournament on the east coast several days later. Stupider (that is a word, right?) if the west coast friendly is after the rumored friendly on the east coast.

It's about time LA gets a reasonably decent match or two compared to January Scandinavian B side (if that) opposition. Next step, WCQ against Caribbean opposition or even Panama.

I don't consider China to be a "crap" team. Sure they no Italy/Brazil/Spain/England etc.. but they're probably better than Canada at least and as long as they bring the A team which I believe they are, then it's not so bad. Anyone know if they play similiarly to any GC teams?

Get your ringside seat for this Don King promotion. 15 rounds of heavyweight fighting...never mind that's China's U-23 team that likes to fight.

Do not expect this game to pack in the local Chinese community (which is one of, if not the, largest Chinese populations outside of China I beleive). The last time these two played in OAK (about 6 to 8 years ago), I couldn't tell if I was more depressed by the lack of US fans, or the even smaller contingent of Chinese fans. Couldn't of been more than 5 - 10K at that game.
Without large amounts of publicity, I expect about the same for this one. The US vs. Wales game (last USMNT game at Spartan I can recall right now) had the benefit of the Earthquakes to promote it during their games.
