I was never comfortable with DC aquiring Stewart....I think he was an ok forward for the US. He is not the flashiest players , and he does not cntroll the ball at his feet.
It is true tat he is one of our best forwards, but that is because we have no one able to keep up with this league up front, with the exeption of quaranta.
A forward is supposed to want the goal, and go at the defender, much like Moreno did whe he was in his prime.... In spain it is called "picardia" ...
it is sometins Stewart does not have...
It would be best if they start Hristo. at least he shows he wants the ball......stewart is not and will not be the solution for DC...(he might have been a good player) I want to see Hristo, and Quaranta up front.....
Stewart des not belong there.....and when he does getthe ball, which is rarely (in good position) he screws up....
a forward (with all of the hype he was given) should be able to create chances.....not waste them, like he often does...
I saw bench him...better yet trade him....get a real forward......

Yes trade Stewart for McBride or Ruiz or Twellman!!!!!!!!!! ;) {Note: tongue planted firmly in cheek.}

Also trade Marco for Ralston or Preki or Donovan!!!!! ;) {Note: tongue planted firmly in cheek, again.}

Stewart has never been a player to get a lot of touches on the ball....he has struggled as a player since last summer due to age....he is a hustler and does little things well, but if he is not going to create or finish chances it may be time to give someone else a shot.

I have to admit, I really expected Stewart to be lighting guys up in the MLS. Haven't given up hope yet, but its certainly been a disappointment so far.

Gee, maybe MLS wasn't so bad all this time, huh?

Stewart is not the problem - he is playing the wrong position.

What we should of done is cut Etch and used his money to pick up Dante Washington. He is a real forward who can hold the ball and shoot and who would of been a perfect fit alongside Q1.

Then we could have Stewart and Convey play along side each other in the middle and Olsen and Dema on the outside.

Couple this with a sting back line of Ivan, Petke, Nelson, and Prideaux with Nicky in goal we would have a strong team all around.

Sub in Curtus for speed, Q2 when we got a lead and need to hold the ball, and maybe Stoitchkov when the team is playing listless and needs a kick in the a$$.

That to me would be the makings of a good if not great team.

Unfortunately nobody in the management of this team has the BALLS to get rid of Etcheverry and turn this team into a fast - ball controlling - attacking team.

The team should be

g - Nicky
d- Petke, Ivanov, Nelson, Prideaux
m- Olsen, Stewert, Convey, Dema
F - Q1, (dante Washington)

what is your opinion on stewart's losing his skill based on, the great half he played against Portugal before he got hurt? maybe his club play? i guess the good games for NAC in the fall, including two goals and then switching to playmaker was just a joke as was the fact cate put him into the starting line up as soon as he was healthy. i guess when cate came out in november and begged the board for a better fiscal solution than cutting stewart was because he sucks. i guess the fact he was MOTM twice in the fall was an illusion.

for christs sake, get a bit of info before spouting off.

I've been disappointed with Stewart. I think he's out of position, but I expect better than this from him. I know he can do better.

However, I think our real problem is that we don't have a true forward. Right now, I could care less about the dribbling aspect of the player's game, as long as he got in the box and scored. I'm talking about players like Twellman, Conteh, Rammel, Fowler, Shearer, etc. They don't contribute a lot to the build-up, but they sure do finish it off, and thats something thats been missing for a while now, and will continue to be a problem until addressed by the staff.

Hmmm... I expected Stewart would be an average MLS player. I have never been that impressed with him other than his once blazing speed. Stewart has a fine soccer brain and has always been very fit but in my opinion he should never have been considered as a franchise or even an impact sort of player in his current form for DCU.

Sorry anyone dare to question Stewart's play with United as compared to the Nats and Holland. Earnie has stunk up the joint since being here. He has a signature move...it's putting his hands on the side of his head everytime he misses a chance..I've almost got it down pat. I've seen that way too many times this season....it's understandable that there should be an adjustment period with a new team..I like Stewart as a player, but it is fair to say that so far he has been a disappointment with United. Hopefully Earnie finds what he is missing in his game, but this team needs to move the ball quicker throught he midfield to give the forwards a chance at goal without being double teamed with a set defense everytime they get the ball. Once that happens things might open up for Earnie.

Indeed this was my feeling on his signing, I never saw him to be a savior for United, and have yet to be proven wrong. We needed a strong forward and Hudson got a tweener,.

I see Earnie stepping up to what we expect in about 10-12 games. We were the worst team last year and currently we are in 7th place. If the playoffs started today......

Anyway, 10-12 games is when this team will jell. It appears that everyone expected miracles with the new team. Lets be realistic. We are in the games and with a break we could be leading our division.

Let the team gell. Lets give this team a break and "Take 5". Chill the the Dave Brubeck song. Aftere the Dirty Dozen let Ray have it.

Step 1. We are undefeated at home.

Ray's into sending messages. Quaranta and Stewart aren't producing; let Alecko and Curtis start a game. Etcheverry sucks lately; make all the Convey supportors happy, and give him a chance in the middle. Mayber pair Stewart with him in the middle.

I'm fine with the defense. It's not like we're getting blown out by the other teams offense, it's more like we're not producing any offense of our own.

When you say MOTM in the fall, I assume you mean 2001 right? I tend to agree with the other camp (and it's based mainly on watching him play for the National team), but playmaker or no, 4 goals in 27 games in 2002 has to make you wonder if Earnie is the right guy to solve the goal scoring drought.
