So he's out for the season with Reading, when will he be ready for us? A late May friendly will probably be needed to get him some match fitness for the summer. Or do you think Coppell will try to stop him from playing this summer?

i'd think coppel wouldn't mind convey going thru a usa training camp...

i might select BOTH beasley and convey for gold cup, and use convey very sparingly, more like a 15-30 minute sub type...

sounds like the surgery was more clean up of a poor initial surgery....

mental note to self, don't use convey's first surgeon...

Why the hell did Beasley play during the last Gold cup on a gimpy knee, and Convey play against Mexico on a gimpy knee? In both cases it delayed recovery or made their conditions worse.

If you believe Reyna (which I do), it sounds as though team medical staff personnel aren't all that good over in Europe. It's possible, in that case, that the physios told the players they were fine, they just need conditioning, et cetera, and the club teams wanted some playing time for the players.

This may be the end of Convey's best playing days. You read it here first. I got a bad feeling. I lived in Europe and the doctors over there suck, suck, suck. :(

wasn't convey's knee surgery done here in the u.s.?

As for how this effects the team, obviously it's bad, but Convey took on (or tried to) take on more defensive responsibility in the Mexico game with Bornstein playing LB, now that Bornstein and Convey are out it more or less clears the way for a Pearce-Beasley or Pearce-Mapp combo, of course there are other possibilities that have been discussed in the Bornstein injury thread and others that I don't feel like typing right now:rolleyes: .

There's no way Convey will be back for the summer tournaments. Even if it was possible, we don't want him rush back too early.

Without knowing what his injury is exactly and what they did in this recent surgery, I would not be so certain.

Convey may decide that the best way to get himself back into shape for the next years Premiership season is to train in June with the National team and get a run out or two in the Gold Cup/Copa.

Many Euro knees are done over here. Steadman in Colorado has done a good number of them.

Michael Owen has gotten a lot of frequent flyer milage on the London/Chicago/Denver trips in recent years.

Why the hell did Beasley play during the last Gold cup on a gimpy knee, and Convey play against Mexico on a gimpy knee? In both cases it delayed recovery or made their conditions worse. Because the coaches made foolish decisions. It was a no-brainer that Convey shouldn't have been called over for the friendly, and they did anyway. They did the same thing with calling up Twellman (but they didn't play him). There is no evidence that these games actually set Beasley and Convey back, but it certainly didn't help either one of them and was simply stupid.

To be fair all around, it wasn't certain the last surgery hadn't worked, until Convey realized it wasn't just working out the kinks after injury, but still not right. And Coppell noted that it didn't appear to be the sort of thing that worsened with playing. If they'd been fighting for prem survival, he might have made a different call. but Reading is safe, and Convey by getting the surgery now, is at least ready for Reading training camp in July.
I don't think he'll play this summer, although it is possible that's another reason he was sent home so early,
