A very subtle post-goal celebration by TnT yesterday -- grabbing the corner flag like a fishing pole and waving it around. I think it was an implicit slap at the goal-less Little Fish.

I'm happy for your explanation...because I was thinking it was a reference to...uh...something else.

So did Harkes on MLS Wrap. He didn't go all the way there, but he did go down the path just a bit. And, of course, they showed it again.

What some minds (eg Capt for Life John) conjure up and projest onto others is a reflection of their own inner urges.
(huge smile)

What I got from TnT's celebration was a message to "The Little Fish". I don't think we will see it again against other teams, especially after TnT gets the feedback that his intentions were misinterpited:-)

I have to admit that I thought it was something else as well, and was somewhat surprised that they showed both his goal and his celebration on the 11:00 news last night.

I thought it was the something else too. I was watching the game with my friend's dad who's from Colombia. Imagine this is his accent:

"Oh my...he's.......happy!"

You, sir, don't have a dirty mind. :)

I just hope he comes up with a new one, I sure don't want to see that "exhibition" 20 plus more times this year

That said, however, I'd rather see a lousy goal celebration 20 or more times this season than a well-thought-out one that only happens 10 times.

if you saw the article in the globe today....its clear he wasn't thinking, just celebrating. sure it was a bit odd, but that's coming from people in the stands. its clear there was NO intention to make a display that "meant" anything one way or another.

he and jmm were barking at each other occassionally. he's been frustrated at home. the match was frustrating throughout. i'd say stop reading ANYTHING (conscious or subconscious) into it.

i think it was clear that he wasn't thinking about what he was doing when he decided, "hey why don't i do a split into the flag pole and have my junk stop my momentum."

the globe article today was funny. they stayed very clear away from describing it in any detail.

They showed the celebration about 4 times on MLS Wrap. John Harkes's comment: "close your eyes, children."

As Sigmund Freud might say, 'Sometimes a corner flag is just a corner flag.'

yeah, if he would have done the stoitchkov reel wind and a couple big tugs....that would've been the best "slap in the face" celebration since the s.k.'s did the speed skating celebration v the us in the wc.

(although...i am opposed to this type of celebration..in theory)

If he wanted to make fun of the little fish he should have just dropped to the ground clutching his ankle and then when his teammates came over to see if he was OK just jump up and walk away. ;)

I never realized how much I hate people who flop around on the ground until seeing this game. I had a non-soccer loving friend over the house and he kept making jokes about Ruiz and his "weak ankles." Usually I'll defend a player who takes a tactical dive every now and then, but when a guy flops around near midfield after nobody came within 3 feet of him...well, that's just inexcusable.

Twellman embarrassed himself yanking on a pole between his legs on national TV. If it was spontaneous it was unfortunate, if premeditated, it was stupid. Like Donovan in a bra at the all-star game such self-affected displays reinforce a negative stereotype of soccer players in the mainstream sporting consciousness. Furthermore, if he meant to taunt Ruiz (which I doubt), he is sadly disillusioned about their relative abilities. Does he think most MLS teams would pick him in favor over Ruiz? I suspect not, how about you?

I suspect you've got a flagpole in your ass.
