Man, I'm hardly ever lucky enough to catch a River game, and when I do... ********.. como sufro!!!!
The ref was horrible on this one, I'm just glad we were able to hang on for the win... I got really worried when it became 2-1 and we went down a player... What a BS red card...

It looked like River were on the verge of losing their cool after the Colo goal. Colo were getting all the yellows in the first half, River was accumulating them in the second. But they settled down and held it.
Farías was absolutely flying. Even our friend, Victor Zapata, was threatening out there a few times tonight.

Great result, if not necessarily a great game. I think Falcao could have/should have had at least two goals; his expulsion was unfair as he was clearly due. And was it me, or did his "elbow" actually hit the player in the shoulder and not the face? Tecla was amazing, and even Zapata came close a few times. Other than that, no other player really stood out, though I didn't see anyone horrible either.
I actually thought that Colo Colo slowed down a lot in the final 20 minutes. It seemed like they either got tired, or we're just happy with the result. Thoughts?

I don't know how much Colo might have been running out of gas. Their first two substitutions seemed to juice them and they scored almost right away after those changes. They looked like they may really take off, and then Falcao was kicked out. But River didn't stay back on their heels, they offensively pushed and just missed capitalizing a couple of times. They made Colo play the whole length of the field for the rest of the game.
I was surprised Passarella didn't use his third substitution, considering River were down to ten guys.

The first goal by Rio Prata was VERY fishy. Replays show the referee and a Colo Colo player about 3 feet to his right with their back turned walking away. While there had been a foul in Rio's favor, the referee had CLEARLY not whistled, and part of the Colo Colo defense was caught unprepared.

the referee doesn't have to whistle. we got 3 points away to the team that is probably the toughest in the group, but it cant ever be easy. listening on the radio is too stressful for me!

Yes, but he messed up a lot of times, favoring Colo Colo too. Falcao expelled? Are you kidding me?!? He jumped up to header the ball, and there was no foul, and obviously no intention. Meanwhile, Suazo had intentionally elbowed a River player in the first half and just recieved a yellow card. Melendez should have been expelled in the first half. In the second half there were a few Colo Colo players who should have received the second yellow (Sanhueza is one that I remember at this moment), but he was too scared to expell them. He was trying to pay back for his mistake in the first half. Oh, and there was also a penalty commited against Farias that he didn't call.
The penalty would have almost for sure been a goal for River. The red cards would have obviously helped a lot too, since River would have been able to control the ball more easily. We were dominating before Falcao was expelled, and if he hadn't recieved that card, I think we would have been closer to the 3rd goal than Colo Colo to their first one.
Either way, I am just glad we won. I just don't like it when people want to put River's rivals as victims but fail to see the times when we are disfavored.
Also, please stop saying "Rio da Prata".. It's extremely annoying, and in all your replies to me you say that. I've never ever said "San Pablo" in my lifetime, but you make me want to start saying it. :D
I made a new River blog, basically posting the same things as here. Still, make sure to give it a visit: http://r-i-v-e-r.blogspot.com/

And? did you see the ref raise his hand with the whistle in hand? I sure as hell didn't.Very fishy I must say.If the players back are turned then thats their fault, does the ref have to tell them,"hey watchout they might catch you off gaurd?!".Only time I can say that the ref makes a player wait before taking a free kick is when its close to the box,River played that foul far from their box.Too bad for them.
Stupid argument if you ask me.
As for Suazo, maybe he should promise gols by 1 instead of 2.

Just wanted to ask all the River guys; Why and when did u start following River and what were the best and worst times since then?
I started taking an interest in River after watching Transworld Sports feature on the Toyota Cup 96, I started buying World Soccer to keep up to date with news, then the internet came along which made it easier.
Best moment was probably the bi champion 99-00 with Aimar-Saviola & Angel.
Worst moment was the 3-0 Libertadores defeat in May 2000 after we won the 1st leg 2-1, I was gutted, especially as Palermo scored after what Gallego said before the game!!

I've been a fan of River my whole life, although it was basically nominal until a couple of years ago when I got satellite and discovered Ole (and eventually their website)
In that time though, that I can remember (I only began to follow River hard core in late 2004, when the rough patch was already beginning), the 3-1 victory over Boca in el Monumental was the best moment so far, and the elimination in the Semis against Libertador de Paraguay in the Libertadores was by miles the worst moment.

I imagine it felt as bad as when you got knocked out by Chivas after you rioted in the Bostanera. I mean, is Mexico even in South America?
Go away.

River was the deserved winner. Nonetheless, both of its goal's were wrongly allowed by the ref and his assistant. What Leo states is incorrect ... if the ref demands distance for a wall (no distiction between a 1 and a 5 man wall ... nor distance to the goal), then he is the only one that can allow the restart of the game. This is the case for direct free-kicks. For an indirect free kick it is also the ref who has to authorize the start of action. Last nite he should had given a yellow to Sambueza for putting the ball in movement without his conscent.
The lamest was Torres' admitance of the mistake, and while the game is still being played! What is he "trying" to imply, that he will help Colo Colo to level his mistakes? 1 mistake doesn't erase another mistake ... it makes 2 mistakes.
Loco ... it is obvious that there are more spaces when a team is chasing the game. That is when River should had closed the game. But you have to admit that the ref opened the game for River with the mistake in the 1st goal. And almost sealed it when he allowed Falcao's gross offside 2 yards from the goal line. There was plenty to play, but an almost impossible task to climb for Colo Colo.
Farias had probably his best game at River ... he was the "lung" for the River defense and midfielders. Tuzzio was once again very consistent. Rivas was important in doubling up to stop Sanchez. And Zapata had a good game in his minutes on field.
As to Falcao's red, Henriquez ended with a band on his head. Wonder why? A yellow could had settled it thou. But don't tell me the high elbow wasn't dangerous, and that Falcao didn't know he had a defender jumping with him. The ref made another bad call when he authorized the entrance of Belluschi that ended in River's most clear missed chance in the 1st half. He used little criteria to do so ...
Borghi is waaaaay too lyric. It is good to attack, but every team needs equilibrium. Which River had in all its lines last nite. Without Fernandez's outside the box shots, Colo Colo is a lot softer, as they have to dribble their way into the box. Defenses win you titles ... River's is solid and has depth.

Geeez I don't know if i'm mistaken, I see alot of fouls being made in any section of the field and players put the ball in play without waiting for a whistle to blow.Like I said most time it is when it is in attacking mode key word *most*.I've seen some free-kicks taking while the keeper is lining up his men for a wall.I'm sure you have also.
Last nights case was yes Giovanni Hernandez did ask for a wall or to be played at the whislte because Torres did admitt to it after.
Every ref is different I guess and will play it according to how he sees it.
As for last nights play, in no moment did I see Torres show a River player or tell him to wait for the whistle, maybe he said it to a Colo Colo player, but in most cases the ref will do some sort of signal for the ball to be played,I didn't see shit.
None the less Torres was a total disaster.Talked way too much,I agree also on that he shouldn't have let Bellsuchi back on the field when the chilenos got caught off gaurd.Falcao was sent off on a bad call. But whatever,it's done.Maybe next game Marco Rubens will get to start.
What pissed me off the most is that River's players who got carded,Farias,Zapata, and maybe someone else got a yellow card for protesting ! ! Stupidest way to get booked if you ask me.
