JONATHAN BORNSTEIN TO MISS SIX WEEKS WITH LEFT KNEE INJURY

CARSON, Calif. (Friday, February 23, 2007) – Chivas USA today announced that defender Jonathan Bornstein is expected to miss six weeks with a partial tear of his left medial collateral ligament (MCL). The injury occurred Thursday morning during Chivas USA's practice at The Home Depot Center. The extent of the injury was revealed via an MRI exam Thursday afternoon.

Above is an email release from Chivas USA. So this means he's out of the picture for the near future.

That's sad news. But six weeks isn't the end of the world. He'll miss the March friendlies but should be in full stride again by the tourneys this summer.

I commend him for his great efforts in two friendlies and now Heath Pearce may get his chance to back up his words in his several interviews. I hope that Heath do so well so it can push Bornstien to elevate to a higher level which will be good for all aspiring left backs.

He plays for a Danish team named FC Nordsjaelland in a top division and played in a part of 2nd half in USA vs Denmark match on January 20th. He made a brilliant overhead pass to Kenny Cooper that led to 3rd goal.

Heath Pearce?

Until about 2-3 months ago, a bigger name than the mercurial Bornstein.

Which says absolutely nothing outside the YA forum.

This is really no biggie in the great scheme of things.

Had this been an ACL....

Will his knee require surgery or will he just have to rest it?

Spot on. I'm guessing he'll be nice and fit for selection for either the Gold Cup, the Copa America, or both.

While the timing is never good for a knee injury, it's a good thing it was just his MCL as opposed to his ACL, and better now than later.

Just saw the news of Bornstein's injury on http://www.themlszone.blogspot.com (http://www.themlszone.blogspot.com/)

I'm a big fan of his and I think the USMNT will really miss him next month when we have two games in three days.

MCL is much better, but I'd expect him not to be in shape for the summer matches. Time for Heath Pearce to step up. Might see Spector get a few run outs at LB as well, although I think he's better on the right.

So was Hejduk, but played LB instead of Regis.

If Pearce is all air, then I can see Spector at LB before Pearce, Dunivant or others.

If he's out the max time currently speculated - and sometimes ACL's heal in under four weeks - he'll be running in early April and playing within the subsequent two weeks.

Barring any setbacks and Joey Franchinos, Jonny should be fine for this summer.

Not good - But not nearly as bad as could be - Get your surgery, and adhere to your rehab - And take an extra week or two coming back & getting conditioning - We'll (and so will Chivas USA) want ya this spring, but we'll want ya more next year

Which says absolutely nothing outside the YA forum. The Denmark game was Pearce's 6th cap, so it's not like he's only known to those who closely follow YAs.
