That's too bad. They'd draw a huge crowd for USSF in Foxboro.

FYI for anyone heading up New England way: there is only one place in the US where you can see a public statue dedicated to a great Portuguese soccer player, and that's Lowell, Mass, outside the Massachussetts Sports Hall of Fame (or maybe it's Sports Museum... it's been a couple of years.

I would rather play Portugal than New Zealand.

Thank you for writing. It currently looks as though the rumored match you mention will not be taking place. Any announcements of additions to the schedule for the U.S. National Teams will be available at ussoccer.com.

Thank you for supporting U.S. Soccer!

There you have it...

Huh? As far as I can remember, U.S. Soccer never announced this match, tickets have not been sold for it, and it's more than a week prior to it... I don't see how it is at all similar to the Japan game, when the opponent pulled out on short notice, after tickets had been sold.

Looks unlikely according to the latest:

Gulati wouldn't elaborate on new complications standing in the way of the game, but it's believed to be related to on-field signboards. Portugal wants its beer marketing partner, Sagres, to be able to place its boards during the game. The Americans have an exclusive contract with Budweiser. Attempts at a compromise couldn't be reached. There could also be broadcast rights to the game the United States does not want to relinquish.

I am sorry, but I have drinken plenty of Bud, and plenty of Sagres. Unless you are into beer that tastes like paste, this really isn't a contest.

Bud wins.

Here's a prime candidate for those virtual sign boards seen only tv.

If this stuff tastes worse than Budweiser, I feel deeply for those forced to consume it...

Someone seems to have reported the game to FIFA. It's showing up on their fixture list:

Don't know how long it's been on the list, so I don't know if it hasn't been "unreported" yet, or if this is new.

I sat in front of two Brits at a World Cup game in Japan last year and asked them what they thought of Bud, the only suds available in WC venues. They loved it and were baffled when I told them it's not held in high esteem by connaisseurs in the States.

If they normally drink Carlsberg, then I can see why they would say that. Or maybe they were just trying to be respectful to Americans.
