Do not not underestimate the Chileans. it's been out with the old and in with the new (apparantely) and going by recent results, it's working.

You are completly right!
IMO, Chile is going to be a huge surprise in the copa America. The level of the players has increased a lot, and for as long as they can play together as a team, I'm sure they won't have any trouble making it to the next round

We like it when other teams underestimate us, so keep it that way ;). This generation is not yet as good as that of 98 with the legendary Za-Sa (Zamorano-Salas) striking force that took us to 6th place in the Fifa ranking.
However, this group has the potential to match them. After France 98 Chile fell down a pit and dropped as low as 70 something (the lowest ever), missing two world cups in the process. Only in the last couple of years Chile has started the comeback. Making more friendlies and sending complete squads (as oposed to lousy B teams) started moving Chile back up the rankings once again.
The difference with this generation is that we have one of the strongest midfields we've ever had. Guys like Valdivia, Mati Fernandez and Mark Gonzalez are all very young and talented. Granted, our offensive capabilities are not as deadly as that of the '98 generation. However Suazo and Navia are no pushovers, particulary Suazo who has been playing some superb football with Colo-Colo and scoring like crazy (making him the world's leading goalscorer last year).
The defense if avarage, but they are reinforced with some great defensive midfielders. And the best thing for this generation is that we have quality subs in all positions except two: right midfielders, strikers and goalie (we have only one decent goalkeeper).
But we have time to work on that.

I'm not sure if Chile will be underestimated . We all know that Chile has improve and we know that they have deadly players.
But then again Mexico also developed key players that proved to be NT material and can make a difference. Same goes with Ecuador . Brazil is the favorite I guess with the super team they have ,Maybe Brazil will be the one to underestimate this 3 teams ?

We hope so, but the brazilians, the mexicans and the ecuatorians were among the top16 in the last WC, so is not easy.
Probably the heat and humidity in Venezuela would be another negative factor against Chile, but we have good players anyway.

Its true Chile is a good team but in my opinion they are in the group of death. If Brasil, Mexico, & Ecuador play at thier best then Chile doesnt stand a chance.NO offense:p

Chile has better players than both Ecuador and Mexico and this tournie is not in Ecuador taking away what makes Ecuador the team they are... lets try to remember how Ecuador has done in Copa Americas and its not good. As for Mexico they always preform very very good at copa americas but thats cause they send a WC squad against Sub 23 of SA teams. The tournie will be very hard for everyone in group B and C. In group A Uruguay will have a fun time haha and we can count them to have the leading goal scorers as they have the 3 weakest teams of the tournie in thier group.
Chile has Bravo, Mark Gonzalez, Matias, Pizzaro, the guy from lazio Jer something....
Mexico has Marquez..... and Bravo, but they have a really really good league which they can take players from... so glad Pinto called Chitiva was worried mexico was going too ;)
Ecuador??? um... the guy who plays in PSV and the setting of Quito which will not make an appearance haha

Uh...Mexico has more tha Marquez and Bravo , Osorio and Pardo who are in Stuttgart and making are difference , There is Salcido who is doing superb in PSV and having a great Champions league and there's Nery Castillo who is doing great in olympiacos , Guardado who is México's biggest sensation at the moment is months from joining a Euro team.
We will have to debate it well to just say Chile has better players , I know they do but I think we do too.

Based on what I read, Castillo had not yet commited to Mexico?
I remember it was talked about a lot, and he was supposed to dress for the US game but in the end, backed out, no?

The Chilean guy that plays at Lazio is Jimenez. Don't count Pizarro though, the little fella said he would not be returning to the Chilean squad. Its not such a big blow however, as we have competent players in the defensive midfielder positions.
Suazo is another good player, but the best Chilean player imho is not Mati or Suazo or Mark...it's Valdivia, who is causing all sorts of havoc in the Brazilian league with Palmeiras. Mati is potentialy the best chilean player, but he has a few things to learn, Valdivia on the other hand has mad skills.

Indeed, he does and is playing great but right now we have to take his success with a pinch of salt because he's only playing in the regional tournament against a lot of non-1st div. clubs. Though, he is doing great.

He didn't backed out , He had a minor injury hugo didn't want to risk nothing , He got called vs Ecuador , If he doesn't play vs Ecuador most likely he won't be called again.

Guishe Franco and Zinha are the only non-mexican players available for the National Team.
Franco was LaTorpe's idea...nobody wants/wanted him in the NT.
And Zinha is a good player but there's plenty of players that can cover that posistion.

if we measure the player qualities by if they play in european leagues than Chile has a stronger team than Mexico and Ecuador.
