Ok Choose who you feel is the best dribbler of all time. Reasons for or why you chose the player would be nice.. and if you pick other could you please name who the player is.

Well, the only one of those I've actually seen is Ronaldo, but I've gone for Best. I've seen so many clips of him weaving his way through defences like the ball was glued to his laces. Unbelievable really.

I've also only seen Ronaldo play, but I've seen most of the others on film.
Maradona weaving through the England defense was amazing, Best was absolutely fearless and Cruyff was just graceful, but Garrincha made the defenders look silly. He had moves that would knock them out of their boots.

Geraldo's on the list?
Was this an oversight or has he more strings to his bow than I'd realised.

I guess you're reffering to Ronaldo there?
Hmm i should have put ROnaldo '96-'98 really he's not been the dribbler he was of late.
But it may return in the future so he's still well worthy of his place i feel.

No no. It was my attempt at tired Saturday afternoon humour.
Rivera .... Geraldo Rivera, US talk show host and latterly reporter for crap 'news' channel Fox.
Ah well. Back to the Oldham - QPR play offs.

Although Ronaldo was great in his prime 5 years ago, Denilson is the best dribbler of all time.

Good idea for a thread, Dark Savante... quite a few differing viewpoints on show already.

Every player on the list has an end product to contribute be it a goal or an assist at the end of their dribbles...out of interest what is Denilson's except for running into touch or kicking the ball into the corner flag :)
Only joking..but don't you think you should pick a player who does something after his dribble? Especially for an alltime poll?

I'd offer a proper opinion - but I have only seen enough of a few of those, to voice an opinion I'd be proud of.
Skip mentioned Maradona's goal against England -great. That entire WC was his basically - he did something similar to South Korea too.
Bestie - another pretty player. Clips of who, I have watched with jaw open.
Ronaldo I wouldn't rate highly enough as a dribbler to be on this list.
And the rest unfortunately I haven't seen enough of to form an idea.
Yes, I know Cruyff was good and Garrincha et al. But on average I've only seen a handful of clips showing their skills.
I'd have liked to watch a few of their matches fully before anything else.
And I have never seen Puskas in action. Though again, one of the all time greats.
So, for me, a toss up between Bestie and Maradona.

Thanks for putting up your thoughts. much appreciated.
I put Ronaldo on the list because i've never seen anyone move with the ball at his feet as fast as Ronaldo can. running a hundred metres in 10.5 while ambidextrously dribbling a ball like it's stuck to your feet is just amazing adding to that the fact he is 6ft tall yet displays such balance i feel he just has to be on there.
The thing with the shorter guys is that they have a slight room for error as in stumbles and stuff but because of the low centre of gravity they recover immediately and almost incoperate it into the dribble like Garrincha and Maradona did but if Ronaldo at his height messes up it's quite away to ground so stumble recovery is not really a viable option for him.
Hope that made some kind of sense? lol i shouldn't type whilst being half drunk >_<

I was inclined to vote for Ronaldo for a while, but then I rewatched Maradona's goal vs. England in the WC. He made those defenders look plain foolish.

Much as I hate him, it has to be Maradona. The guy was electric with the ball at his feet. If you watch footage of him, he took so many touches in such rapid succession that it was impossible for a defender to steal the ball from him. He also had fantastic acceleration and a low centre of gravity.
That said, he was also a bloated little junkie cheat.

The thread is the "Best Dribbler of all time". He does not have to do anything, except to dribble to qualify to be the best dribbler of all time. Ronaldo is the one player I have seen..... Denilson is better in dribbling. May be Maradona....

Have you all forgotten about Ronaldinho? Ronaldinho has the dribble skill of Ronaldo in his prime, and has a hell of a shot to boot. Do any of you remember the jackass he made of that african defender in the WC to set up a goal by ronaldo? damn near made the guy fall!
