Talking to whoever was seeking an opinion of which MLS team they should support!

I came over to this board because I'm considering grad school in Newcastle and was going to find out some insight into the city from Newcastle supporters. I saw the MLS thread in NSR and figured I'd give that a shot. I guess I should have expected to get savaged without stating I came under a flag of truce first :o.

As far as the "pre-season friendly" it was, however it ended in a 1-1 draw. My larger point is, taking friendly into consideration, it wasn't like Celtic played the Revs off the field. In fact they made a bid for Shalrie Joseph the next transfer window so looks like they like "shite" Rev players also. :D

:D I was just kidding with you my friend, no worries.

Funny coming from a dude who lives in Seattle

How 'bout them Seahawks? ;)
I don't watch "Throwball" anymore and I'm not a native so the Seahawks record wouldn't matter to me if I still did care about the NFL.

Pssh.

Football (throwball, gridiron, etc)is a good sport to have on in the background while playing FM. So much time in between plays, so you hardly have to pay attention :)

Seattle Sounders FC 3-0 New York Red Bulls

MLS newbies the Seattle Sounders won their first ever MLS competitive match on March the 19th 2009, in which on their home turf they defeated the New York Red Bulls. The win also marked the kick off of the new MLS season.
The excellent Colombian striker Fredy Montero netted a brace in this game, in which his goals came on 12 and 75 minutes. Fredy Montero who has joined the club on loan from Colombian outfit Deportivo Cali, comes to the club with a very impressive record. In 38 appearances for Cali he netted 20 goals, and for one year amongst this he went on a loan spell to fellow Colombian club Atlético Huila, in which in 27 appearances he scored 22 goals. What makes these records even more impressive is that he did all of this at a very young age, as Montero is currently aged at 21. It should also be pointed out that Montero turned down a very good offer from Spanish side Real Betis, for which he could have been a key figure in their squad and play in La Liga, but instead he chose to play for Seattle in the MLS, therefore meaning that Seattle fans out there should be very thankful and are quite lucky. This youngster is certain to have a great season in the MLS.
With regards to the other Seattle goal this was scored on 25 minutes by midfielder Brad Evans.

Since we have a few NUFC supporters on this forum who also follow the Sounders, I was wondering if any of you guys attended the game or viewed it via television, and if you did what are your thoughts on all things related to the 3-0 win?

I only got to watch a little bit of it on TV because of all the basketball, but from what I caught listening to the game online it was a pretty dominant performance. Montero was brilliant, Angel was totally quiet and we didn't even have Ljungberg in the lineup. The performance belied Seattle's expansion status but to be fair the powers that be made a bunch of great moves. Ljungberg will be a good pickup from Europe, Montero likewise, and Keller almost automatically becomes the best keeper in the league IMO.

Dirt was at the game. I'm sure he'll have more factual stuff other than just my rambling half-conclusions. :)

I sat in the Brougham End with the ECS right behind the goal so my perspective was not that great but from what I could tell Sigi had the boys play a high pressure, possession oriented game with the occasional long ball to stretch the defense. Montero is fantastic. He combines pace and vision with a high degree of technical ability. Enjoy Freddy now cause he's gone after this season IMO. Angel was largely silent because his service was cut off almost all game. Keller is still fantastic and we sang his name a lot. Ljungberg got a loud cheer when walked by ECS in the first half but I'm worried he's going to have a hard time staying healthy in MLS. Overall great game and I forgot about the plastic turf 5mins into the match. The whole stadium stood and cheered the whole game amazing. The march in was pretty cool as well. I'll post some video from that today or tomorrow.

The Brougham End-"Tonight Our History Becomes Legend"

It's all general admission up front behind goal. I've never had so much fun at a sporting event ever..... not even close.

I just saw on Twitter that Vancouver sold 5,000 season ticket deposits in 48hrs. The PacNW (or SW for Canada) is really going to drag MLS into a new era of fan support. So much history exists between the cities that I expect to see unparalleled traveling support in the range of 5k+ once Vancouver and PDX enter the fray by 2012.

I wonder which current MLS side is known for having the WORST support. Kansas City?

Dallas is pretty bad. Having followed the Dynamo for a couple of seasons I can vouch for that. When they'd have the derby at Pizza Hut Park, it'd be something like half Houston fans.

Bayern expect 2k+ traveling TFC support for the Crew game tonight. It should be a great atmosphere. Bring a camera.

Seattle needs to become the dominant team out west then, so we can get our rivalry going! :)

It was a pretty good atmosphere (though probably nothing like Seattle's home opener or a Toronto home match). TFC fans rowdy until the Crew went up 1-0. Then: quiet as a mouse.

Then Columbus scored an own goal and the TFC support started up again. Also, they threw flares on the field that landed near their own goalkeeper. Intelligent.

First half some TFC fans sat behind me. 2 girls and 1 guy, making fun of how most people were sitting and how some home fans were wearing red (Ohio State gear). Also some pretty obnoxious anti-American BS ("I'm afraid I might get shot here...don't most Americans carry guns?"). After we scored, I looked at them and put my index finger over my lips. They STFU.

After the game, TFC fans were throwing sh-t at Columbus fans, acting really stereotypically Euro-hooligan-like. Poseurs.

F--- Toronto FC. 0 wins against Columbus.

GO CREW.

The paper in Cbus this morning said there were 1500 TFC Fans that made the trip out of the 14k in total attendance. Glad you had a good time, Nordecke seemed to be in mid season form. The rest of us were a far cry from the Eastern Conference Final against Ch!cago last fall.

Bayern, wish you woulda seen a win. Nothing would have made me happier than send them on a long bus ride home after losing. It's a pretty quick turn around before we play them again (5/2 I think) up there on the plastic. Hopefully we'll have all 11 starters for that game.

At least we're undefeated still =)

I think I'll be sitting in the Nordecke the next time I go (hopefully to one of the April games). I really liked Crew Stadium.

I just finished reading about the "afters" on the Crew board. It sounds like the TFC supporters caused a lot of problems, torn up seats, pyro, smoke bombs, fights and general mayhem. I'm starting to hate that group of wannabes.
