The best US Soccer player ever. Hands down it's not even close.

So did Jon Dahl Tomasson.

Who?

Exactly.

http://www.talkofthetyne.net/mediac/400_300/media/00~TOMASSON.JPG

A bit of a bust from what I remember with the Toon but went on to score a boatload of goals in Holland, Italy, and Germany.

Played out of position for Newcastle, after Shearer had his injury and we sold Ferdinand he was the only fit forward we had and played him as a CF, was on fire in pre-season when we actually played him as an AM. Shame really he ended up at Milan, not many Newcastle flops can say that.

Anyway carry on with the circular argument about Landon

Helping out in youth camps...respectable. But ask John Q. Nonsoccerfan on the street to name one American soccer player, they'll probably say Freddy Adu.
Maybe, but I wouldn't bet against him as heavily as you do.

Yes, because if it comes from Donovan's mouth it must be true.
Are you calling him a liar?

Well, among the Germans and Austrians I've been around, only a few even know who he is, let alone respect him.
Well then those Germans must have a short memory of when he carved them up during that heart breaking quarterfinal where we played Ze Germans off the pitch.

So did Jon Dahl Tomasson.

Who?

Exactly.
I know who that is, quality player. What's the point?

It's not disparaging anyone so it's perfectly fine. Stop acting like a hypersensitive liberal and learn to take a joke. :D

It's just not funny, and it also is annoying that anyone that has the audacity to defend the greatest American player ever from haters gets a called a fanboy.

Either you have a very loose defintion of that term or can't distinguish between the Gooch fanboys we dealt with and having a semi-constructive argument.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to mplsTOON again.

I was wondering that very thing...

The difference lies in that we're questioning his drive to be the best player he can be, not his talent or his commitment to the US Nats. You, as the Gals fan and Landycakes backer, can't apparently tell the difference.

That and the thread title is just damn funny - everyone I talked to before I changed it thought so too.

At any rate, less blind defense/attacking and more MLS discussion.

I'll start: Dallas still sucks! :D

I can completely agree with that.
Don't you agree that he could increase his level of playing at a better club and be an even greater player for the US? Better coaches, better teammates, and better opponents would be a good thing.
I'm not going to mock him for leaving Germany, but I think it would be sad if he ends his career in the MLS (unless the MLS suddenly becomes the geatest league in the world).

As far as his committment to the Nats and not wanting to miss camps, how do Brazil and Argentina deal with the travel problem? Do they always hold camps in Europe? It seems most of their friendlies are there.

EXACTLY!

BTW, an anecdote for ToonUSA:

I talked to an Austrian today at the bar and asked him which US National Team players he knew. He said Alexi Lalas and Kasey Keller.

That's not the appearance this discussion has had.

Of course we all hope he will, and still has plenty of time. Which is why the haters annoy me.

I think that's what they do with the exception of WCQers.

Interesting. Although I wouldn't expect Austrians to know much of US Soccer. Germans I would.

Yea, as if your lot are confident enough to march into the HDC and claim the points. You're crap and your keeper is worth nowt. We'll probably we win 2-0. 2 Donovan goals. :)

Holy sh!te, DC blows.

If I become a permanent resident of Ohio I'm going to be a Crew fan.

Or basically I'll become a fan of whichever team is closest to where I'll live in the future. I just can't commit right now. Which sucks, because I WANT to actively support an MLS team.
