If considering Bauer in a similar function, he must have been above Cafu too... :oWhy Bauer? Didn't get it.

good lineup though i would put maicon over ramos and have robben on the bench and maybe starting.

I can see Maicon as a potential replacement for Ramos , Robben has been very good too but then again you have Gerrard , Ronaldo , Kaka .. there are so many players you could make 2 if not 3 great teams so its hard to choose one

..................Casillas...................

...........Ferdinand.....Vidic.............

Ramos....................................Lahm

................Mascherano.................

.......Xavi.......................Iniesta.......

Messi..................................Ribery

....................Torres.....................

Subs - J.Cesar , Chiellini , Evra , C.Ronaldo , Gerrard , Villa , Kaka

Heres a sample I made just now

Nice team, but I'll tell ya what, TODAY I think J.Cesar is better than even Casillas. The guy is truly holding Inter (and Brazil) up by himself this year. Also, Ronaldo instead of Ribery, in that he is physically stronger, and your team seems to need a bit of muscle.

Why Bauer? Didn't get it.

I think Bauer was often a right-half, starting or stopping attacks for and against his teams in a more defensive than advanced position. It seems to me the wing-backs in Brazilian WM times weren't such protected by the center-half as in the British way (where this player was, and is, a kind of Brazilian "quarto-zagueiro", not a "volante"), so they were more full-backs, while the actual wings were side placed halves. Just my opinion...

Platini, Zidane, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Charlton, Eusebio, Muller, Gullit, Baggio,Nice, very nice Dagoods.

I knew we'd agree sometime.

Very good selection.

Even if I do have a few objections (not too relevant though).

Objections are always bound to happen.

Romário & Van Basten captured my fancy though. Wow.:)

My first team I posted before as:

--------------------Yashin-------------
Cafu-------Beckenbaur-----Moore----Maldini

Best------Platini---------Maradona----Cruyff

----------Pele-----------van Basten--------

My second and third teams would start off as 2 Christmas Trees to make the most of the creative players - allowing them most scope to roam around the pitch (in team 1 I feel they can do this within a 4-4-2 - Cruyff especially would be all over the place and could even switch his primary position with George Best).
In team 2 I have Di Stefano and Michael Laudrup supporting Eusebio but this could be switched so that Di Stefano played as a second striker and Laudrup in a free role (midfield, both wings, attack, wherever he wants). similarly in team 3 Dalglish could play as the second striker and Zico in a free role.

--------------Schmeichel-----------
C.Alberto----Sammer----Baresi----Lizarazu

---------Figo----Zidane---B.Charlton-----

-----------Di Stefano---M.Laudrup------

----------------Eusebio----------------

and

----------------Banks--------------
Jorginho-----Scirea---Vierchowod---R.Carlos

----Rummenigge---Matthaus----Ronaldinho---

---------Zico-----------Dalglish-----------

----------------Ronaldo(Brz)--------------

Vierchowod is my most uncertain pick and the likes of Krol, Nesta and Rijkaard may be contenders for his spot but I felt that he possessed both good defensive attributes (pace, reading of game, tackling) and good skill on the ball too.

KK1, I appreciate your footy knowledge, trust me I really do! Please feel free to go ahead and share your objections with me. I tried to make my teams as balanced as possible, one attacking full-back & one defensive full-back, one holding midfielder & one volante etc.
The Romario and Van Basten combo is really mouthwatering isn’t it? Man I would do anything to see Garrincha, Maradona, Pele, and Ronaldo (all in their prime) on the field WOW I think I just got a footy orgasm lol!

And sorry if I've been a bit harsh in other posts: polemize is in my veins. But - I may be wrong - that's what I think that makes a discussion exciting.

Having seen all those guys live really is exciting but I think footage (even the old ones) are or can be very informative about any player.

That's why I don't agree when people say one can't compare epochs.

If you see each of them from the appropriate perspective you can compare them, yes.

As far as the orgasms, I'm still oozing from my last ones.:p

PS: The Romário/Van Basten attack is really a finding.

Mate, I want to apologize as well; sometimes I lose my cool as well. Please accept my apologies, I like to learn from those who had the privilege of seeing such great legends of the past play live.
Please go ahead and let me know who would you take out/replace (a brief explanation would be nice :D) thankx mate!!!

IMO, Van basten and Romario won't work that well as they were both main striker type. Van Basten could play wide or slightly behind Romario (like old Ronaldo 96-98) but that would not be Basten's best- He and Romario were both clinical finisher, great instinct scorer but not as great in creativity ... nor a type who could draw the crowd and make space for other team mates - mould of Pele, Maradona, Cruijff, Old Ronaldo, Garrincha, Zico ...

Pele (12g) Maradona (8g) Garrincha (5g) and Ronaldo (15g) = 40goals at WC level altogether, and they were all best player of at least 1 WC event.

JAMES, what's up mate...it's a shame how things ended over at SP :(

Well my dear friend, both Van Basten and Romario (in their prime) were more than just target/STrikers. Van Basten had a sweet touch, could dribble from outside (early days) and definitely turn defenders inside out inside the box; the same can be said of Romario. These two can shoot from anywhere (outside & inside) with either foot. I would have Van Basten play a litte behind Romario, I don’t see why these two legends wouldn’t make it work. It’s not like I’m fielding: Inzaghi – Vieri out there :D

In WC94, Romário scored after running with the ball from midfield towards the goal. Besides, he assisted Bebeto (against USA) in the same style.

Both can switch back and forth, both were skillful enough to support each other!

Don't get me wrong! Of course they both are skillful enough to play well with each other.

What I meant - following the thread "ULTIMATE TEAM", was that they would not be among the "greatest pair" like Pele + Garrincha, Pele + Tostao(or Vava) , Di stefano + Puskas, Ro - Ro , and Ro - Ri ...

IMO, Cruijff + Van Basten can rival Di stefano+ Puskas, Pele + Tostao, Zico + Ronaldo or Garrincha + Romario ... to form "ultimate or heavy weight pair"

Yeah, I put it together more like an all-star team. But alright then, if I'm entering a team with an unlimited budget into the Champions League next year and I have to win to save my family...it would look like this.

---Rooney-----Torres-----Ibrahimovic
----------Xavi-------Deco-----------
