Being Nesta and Bergkamp, Henry isn't an inharmonious choice.

Maradona (dropped for handballing too often)Maybe Garrincha was dropped also for the same reason...:)

BTW, as phil80 said, the team is not bad, but I think, for example, Baresi is better than Nesta, and (using your choices) Maldini and Zico would be in R. Carlos and Bergkamp places.

Anyone who argues that Thierry Henry wasn't up there with the greatest has gotta check themselves surely. He was unstoppable at Arsenal and unfortunately is being misused at Barce.

Bergkamp was just brilliant in the 'hole' and his touch and control were superb.
Call me Arsenal bias or something sure :) but I had to include him.

you're probably right though, but to be honest I just could count myself as a proper Gooner without including them. Hell I almost included tony adams.

Yeah, but Nesta in particular isnt an obviously bad choices as Henry. There are way too many attacking players that deserve mention before him including van basten, best, ronaldo, etc that list can go on forever. Henry wouldnt even make a modern ultimate team, as rivaldo, ronaldinho, ronaldo, baggio would all be ahead of him.

Consider this post Henry's third and final strike.

Ok I give up, replace Henry with Van Basten then. too much gunner blood in me.

All time:
---------------------------Yashin----------------------

Cafu-----------Beckenbaur---------Moore----------Maldini

Best-----------Platini---------------Maradona------Cruyff

----------------Pele---------------van Basten-----------

Subs: Schmeichel, Baresi, Amoros, Zidane, M.Laudrup, Di Stefano, Eusebio.

Current era (I'm picking players still playing on their best form - I guess the question may have been the best team on current form but anyway...):
----------------------------Buffon------------------------

Zanetti-------------Nesta----------------Edmilson------Maldini

-------------Figo------------Kaka----------Ronaldinho-------

-----------------------------Totti--------------------------

--------------------Ronaldo--------Henry---------------
Subs: Toldo, Carvalho, R.Carlos, Beckham, Pires, Raul, Shevchenko.

And ok a current one as they are today:
-----------------------------Buffon-------------------------

Maicon-----------Nesta-----------------Carvalho-------Lahm

------------Beckham---------Kaka-----------Ronaldinho-------

------------Messi------------C.Ronaldo-------Robinho---------
Subs: Reina, K.Toure, Grosso, Rosicky (if as good as ever when returns)Gerrard, Arshavin, Totti.

If not Rosicky then Sneijder or Yaya Toure or even Vieira if could play as well as in WC'06.

Subs: Toldo, Carvalho, R.Carlos, Beckham, Pires, Raul, Shevchenko.Good teams...But I don't understand why Cafú is in your 'All-time' squad, but not in your 'Current era' team...If he's the best of all-time, wouldn't he be the best of current era also (once he played the same era as Zanetti)?

BTW, imo, although Cafu was great at his time, he is not even the third all-time brazilian right-back...

I did a quick check on Wikipedia and he's retired and was at one time going to play for Gosforth Town as a guest just like Socrates did ;
I feel that he was quicker and therefore a better attacking outlet than Carlos Alberto and I don't know that much about Djalma Santos but if he had adavantage over Cafu I would think it was in tackling and marking and I know we are talking about a defensive position but Cafu wasn't vulnerable at his best and was almost like a winger and full back in one at times. Brazil has had more top right backs with attacking skills than any country though with Jorginho, Josimar, Nelinho was it who scored the swerving goal in the 70's? Maybe you are thinking of more too but I stick with Cafu and he would have been in the current era side but I was only including players still playing otherwise how far do I go back? eg Zidane, Bergkamp etc etc

IMO, Cafu would easily lose to Djalma Santos & Carlos Alberto in all fundaments.

He'd only tie with them in consistency.

What doesn't mean he hasn't been a pillar for Brazil (a moving pillar BTW) both as a defender and 'almost a wing' as you put.

But the former were far way more complete.

In the same case is Leandro, but what makes him not be so much more above Cafu is the fact that because of physical problems he never displayed in the NT the same consistency Cafu did.

Nelinho is another that's above Cafu, although not with the same efficiency in defense.

Cafu would dispute a heated battle with Jorginho for that 5th spot though.

Rildo, Paulo Henrique, Josimar, Netto, Toninho Baiano - all Seleção - would follow.

A Brz All-Time 11 only of right-defenders.

Put T. Baiano in the goal, 'align' them to the center...

T. Baiano
D. Santos-Leandro-C. Alberto-Rildo
Cafu-Jorginho-Netto-Paulo Henrique
Nelinho-Josimar

...and of course move Brazil goal to where the right-hand corner flag is.

Might work.:D

(...)Completely in agreement.

Another thing that must be considered is that, IMO, during Cafu's era, Brazilian NT lacked good right-backs. He owned Jorginho's place and no other appeared to dispute with him.
