And here is why, Trecker has basically sunk us in this tournament, take anything Trecker says and the opposite happens... we are going to win this tournament.

Trecker isn't very bright.

Can't he wait until the rosters are announced to see how they match up?

Also, he keeps talking about how our team has their confidence down after the World Cup. Well, we have a new coach and we will probably only have 3-5 players who played in Germany going to the Copa America. It's a completley different team.

The guy doesn't let facts get in the way of taking a swipe at US Soccer or MLS.

I think Trecker overstates the talent gap between the US and the rest of the world. Certainly, there are some national sides that still outclass us at nearly every position, Brazil, Argentina, Italy, but that's it. And, this just in, they outclass nearly every other country as well.

I also think he is placing too much reliance on our poor showing in Germany as an indication of the talent gap. I mean, the single point we got came at the expense of the eventual winner. I think most on this board would agree that a lot of the blame for the poor performance should go to Arena's player selection, sub patterns and formations, but those issues have been argued to death.

I still think that when the US fields a fully fit A-side, we can hold our own with anyone. The problem is, we can't seem to find a coach even competent enough to figure out who that best XI is.

And, although I don't fall into the crowd that claims Albright is a no talent hack who doesn't even belong in the MLS, I seriously question the reasoning behind his inclusion in any other nat games. His main job is to defend the other sides wing players from making quality crosses into the box and he fails miserably at this nearly every time.

Trecker the junior, unlike his father, is provocative.

And he is persistently negative.

I don't understand his including Reis in his 2-tourney mainstays.
Also, Convey and not Beasley?

Friedel will never be GK for the USMNT again.

Trecker would be more useful if he told us what other nations are doing to solve their casting problems. I assume as I've read, that most nations will send their B teams, but perhaps Trecker knows more?
He IS a soccer journalist some of the time.

Trecker thinks that we should field a stronger team for the copa america.

Now, I am SURE that we are doing the right thing! :D

Trecker is an assclown.

How does sending Deuce, Gooch, Howard, Beas, Donovan to the Copa America continue the development of the US players? These guys have all pretty much shown that they can handle these situations (well, landy might need a reminder or 10). Send the younger guys. Se if Bornstein can do his job with bags of urine tossed at him. See if Cooper can score when he has 40,000 screaming supporters in the seats?

Our chances in 2010 will be much better if we blood the new guys right now and sending them to the Gold Cup does not blood them at all.

The thread merge is cool and all, but without the subject line, MightyMouse's post makes no sense at all.

I've developed a strong dislike of Trecker over the past 6 months.
However, he makes several good points here.
If it is possible, using our best players (Euros) in Copa America is the way to go.
Gold Cup should be a gimme.
Calling on McBride (esp) or Friedel one last time would assist us.

OH come on, Jamie. You take a reasonable position - that the US is a team in transition who could struggle in the Copa - and turn it into saying that we have inferior talent even to Paraguay? Ridiculous.

Disagree. YOu've got to take the limited opportunities to play strong sides in tough circumstances and let your youngsters cut their teeth.

Or Columbia who hasn't come close to beating the US in years. Fact is US has a strong record against SA teams.

I think the Copa is a worthwhile exercise, but if you have to choose one to send your strongest team, I'd pick the Gold Cup. A tournament in South Africa in 2009 will be much more benficial to the program than any acclaim which would be generated by a decent showing in Copa.

ach this Trecker...is this the man who reported that he was sure that Klinsi is going to be USMNT coach and it should have been annouced someday early december last year?..

it this this reporter who always provokes with his reports about USMNT..

I never take his reports seriously, but I like to read them, because they are a lot of fun and entertainment...and sometimes he writes some "good" stories...

if USA has or has no chance in the Cold Cup? I donīt think Trecker can answer this questions..

I saw you have difficult group again (like you did in world cup)...Argentina, uh...but who said that you have no chance?...we also did beat Argentina and Argentina was supposed to be the candidate for world cup winners:)..

remember the game has 90 minutes and it can happen a lot during 90 minutes even in the game like Argentina-USA....Argentina can make one big mistake and it can be your advantage..of course you have chance..

I think you have a chance....

why we should think negative?

is a reason for this?

your bltleo
or "your Trecker from Germany":)
this one with the worst grammar on US board...

Latest USSF press release:

"The sky is blue."

Next Trecker column will explain how it is clearly green.

Best line in this article:

"At present, there are only four or five guys you can pencil in (for my money, they are: Clint Dempsey, Oguchi Onyewu, Matt Reis, Tim Howard and Bobby Convey), meaning that there should be a healthy competition for all the other slots."

Matt Reis?! Why would you bring the same backup to two tournaments and keep him away from his in-season club for two months?

oh, that's right, he is an ass-hat.

Funny thing is, that's not the problem. Arena and the US were EAGER to take on Italy after a hammering from the Czechs. Because despite how great they were player for player, we were happy to try to match them that way. We understood Italy.

But the Czechs outclassed us as a team: greater than the sum of 11 players in 11 positions. The Czechs took us apart and hammered us and we still don't know how.

Time to move along from Arenaball. Far along. Foreign coach please.

The same Trecker who loudly proclaimed Klinnsman was the coach, we were doomed against Mexico because MLS players couldn't stack up, and then embarrassed himself with a follow up article declaring the Mexico game meant nothing?

I cannot wait to meet Jaime Trecker.
