Figured I'd make it a new thread from the craziness in the Goff thread
we may also be there in case 2014 doesn't work out in South America

Where's the separate stadiums thread I asked for? How many of our current stadiums will be adequate in 10+ years time? I wish I were serious, but I'm not.

Enough....Trust me...when it comes to stadiums we are golden (that is one of the main reasons why we are considered fall backs for other world cups like the one in South Africa as we don't have to drop $$$$$ and time to build stadiums. The only issue is which stadiums.

Oh God, I can see it now. They are going to want to host it in Dallas, but they'll be renovating the new Cowboys Stadium (already), it won't be done in time, and they'll go to Southlake instead.

This thread is serious, and I wish I could be, but once again I must say that I'm not. It's the enormity of it all - I'm overwhelmed.
What about the infrastructure and transportation issues, like Jet Blue delays and cancellations? Crime, traffic problems, I could go on and on ...
This is great news for me personally, and for most of us here, but let's look at the larger societal implications. Before it's too late!

Crime not a problem if you look at South Africa hosting in 2010. And transportation is way better than there too...and stadiums.
Our bid is 50 times stronger than South Africa's 2010 bid...but probably not as strong as England's will be for the same 2018 world cup.

I think you need to take into account FIFA's fears of hooliganism. Any incident at the London Olympic tournament would all but flush their 2018 hopes down the drain.

true, but I also expect FIFA to award it somewhere in Europe.
2010 - Africa
2014 - South America
2018 - seems like it should be Europe...it seems odd that they go 3 WCs in a row without one in Europe

Are LA and NY/NJ going to have new stadiums like the rest of the country?

A World Cup in the US in 2018 or 2014 is likely to be played in football stadiums, not soccer specific ones. And why wouldn't they? I'd bet big money that World Cup games a decade down the road will sell out this country's biggest and best stadiums, no question.
Why even look at the 25 and 30k homes of the domestic league? What those stadiums are good for is the continued building of soccer in this country on every level, but they're not, nor will they need to be, adequate for the biggest sporting event on the planet.
I say let the HDC, Pizza Hut Park, Toyota Park, Mile Highbury, and The Leaf up North continue to build this league, build the players, and build the fans so that when the World Cup lands on US soil again, the Americans are good and ready to not just win it all, but fill up every stadium and pub in this country every single game.

Ok, let's start debating which cities should get to host. Here are the main candidates (in order of likelihood). 1994 Hosts are starred.
*New York - Giants Stadium
*Los Angeles - Rosebowl
*Chicago - Soldier Field
*Washington, DC - FedEx Field/RFK
*Boston - Gilette Stadium
Philadelphia - Lincoln Financial Field
Miami - Dolphins Stadium
*San Francisco - Monster Park (Stanford Stadium in 1994)
*Dallas - Texas Stadium (Cotton Bowl in 1994)
Houston - Reliant Stadium
Phoenix - Univ. of Phoenix Stadium
Seattle - Qwest Park
Tampa - Raymond James Stadium
Denver - Invesco Field
San Diego - Qualcomm Stadium
*Detroit - Ford Field
Baltimore - M&T Bank Stadium
Atlanta - Georgia Dome
St. Louis - Edward Jones Dome
*Orlando - Citrus Bowl
I don't really think Dome Stadiums are appropriate for World Cup matches, so I would chose the following 12 host cities: NY, Boston, DC, Philly, LA, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, Phoenix, one of Dallas/Houston, one of Miami/Tampa/Orlando.
I'm also not a fan of the college stadiums...it would be preferable to use as many of our new facilities as possible.

..i mean seroiusly we got a good 11 years guys why dont we slow it downWe'll have plenty to do for a long time battling the Brits on these boards.. With this news, their attacks on anything related to US Soccer will surely increase.. They want the 2018 WC too..;)

The question here is if they'd have enough suitable non-Field Turf NFL stadia and/or what would the main NYC stadium be?
How many grass tray stadiums could they really get away with? One or two--maybe--but even that would be seen as weak.
And then there's the awful heat that just killed those Orlando and Dallas games in 1994.
They'd have to have afternoon matches again for Europe's sake, so places like Seattle, New England, the Bay Area, and Chicago would immediately come into play.
L.A.--would we really still be talking about the Rose Bowl?
DC--Fedex.
Denver would have to get one this time. And nothing down south unless it could be sealed and air conditioned.

FedEx is not wide enough. You can thank Dan M. Snyder for that.
Funny as it might sound I would not be surprised if the new Cowboys stadium gets the final. It is going to be the nicest stadium in the country. I can really see 2 Texas cities get matches(Houston and Dallas).

"The Dallas Morning News: Team owner Jerry Jones and Bryan Trubey of HKS Architects said the team's new home was designed as a great building - not just a football stadium - and as a world-class sports and entertainment venue. The stadium could host a World Cup soccer match or Olympics opening ceremony."
FYI, retractable roof.
