Yes my friend, Bob Bradley made the following statement:

http://www.soccer365.com/US_NEWS/National_Teams/page_91_137026.shtml

I think that its irrelevant because USA is not the only country to have players in Europe. Does that mean that Argentina and Brazil will suck because most of their players play in Europe??????, No, this is just an excuse that I dont like or understand from the USA coach. He is trying to justify a lost cause. What affects USA also affect other teams as well. Stop the excuses Mr. Bradley, stop cryng like a baby and tell your team to play like real men.

this is probably why he was chosen as an interim coach. he was willing to get the team through these tournaments without demanding the team be competitve in COPA. any other self respecting coach would understand that COPA carries more presige and is a better experience than the....Gold Cup? what a joke of a tournament. seriously, we could send an all MLS squad to clean up the Gold Cup. send the Yanks Abroad to south america!

I know we are not supposed to post entire articles. But this one is short. Juan, please point out the individual word/phrases that Bradley uttered that relate to either him attempting to downplay the US' chances due to the possibility of limited European callups or any suggestion that the exact same thing wouldn't be happening to other teams. In other words, where is any hint that he is trying to make any excuse whatsoever:

After Wednesday’s Copa America draw, U.S. Men’s National Team coach Bob Bradley admitted that it could be difficult to get European-based players released for he summer tournament.

Nope.

The Venezuela edition of CONMEBOL’s championship kicks off in July, while most UEFA leagues are starting with the preseason.

Don't think so.

“Clearly, it will be easier to get releases for European-based players for the Gold Cup,” Bradley told a conference call. “We will work to try to see what’s best for all of these players.”

Um, nope.

“We understood when we made the decision to be in Copa America, that it would also be an opportunity to dig deeper into our pool and to see some of our younger players in these kinds of games,” he added.

Nope. Nothing about how competitive US will be, just a discussion of who might be called up. Right?

“We are fully prepared to put together good rosters for both events.”

Nope. If anything, the opposite.

I'm not sold on the guy as a coach qualified to coach a team that wants to go places like the USA. But there's absolutely nothing wrong with his remarks here.

And how many of those Argentine and Brazilian players have the possibility of playing in 2 continental tournaments this summer????? I thought so. It IS going to be nearly impossible to get European players for both the Gold Cup AND Copa America. That's just the way it is. I guarantee that the European teams would petition FIFA if we tried to take the players that THEY pay, and play them in both competitions.

here is the prove:

"U.S. Men’s National Team coach Bob Bradley admitted that it could be difficult to get European-based players released for he summer tournament".

Copa AMerica is a prestigious tournament, more important worldwide than the Gold Cup. Bob is sending the wrong message. Fifa and European teams understand that this is a high and prestigious competition and they will release players. He should send a request to release players for Copa America and send an all MLS based team for the Gold Cup and they can still win. He is sending the wrong message to his players in Europe. Like, dont worry about getting a permission for Copa America, get it for the Gold Cup. In the past, other South AMerica players in Europe got permission for all good players, why not USA?????????????????, but dont come up with stupidities to me cause i know what is Bob's message behind the door. He is looking for excuses.

If the European clubs could, they wouldn't let their players play in any of these tournaments. To them, AFA, Gold Cup, Copa America, UEFA, World Cup, are all nonsense and subject their 'property' to unecessary harm.

Argentina and Brazil never send full squads. Very good and competitve squads? Yes. Full power? No. Several of their older Euro players usually get the full summer off.

Also if you are a Kaka, Adriano, Ronaldihno, you can tell your manager that you are going to play in Copa and it will not effect your position on the squad. If Bobby Convey or Clint Dempsey play, they can lose their place in preseason training by not being in camp.

If coach Sanchez lost to an extremely young US team before a favorite crowd, what is going to happen in South Ameritca?. Hugo should stick to his promises. He talks so much and critize Lavolpe so much that NOW HE IS IN hot waters.

Before I make my comment let me just say competition at Copa America>>>>>Gold Cup. That being said the US HAS to win the Gold Cup to get a spot in the confederations cup in 09, thats their number one priority. Sure they could probably win it with a B squad but why take the risk? The Euros will play the Gold Cup like it or not, I personally don't for my own selfish reasons I would like to send our best team to the Copa America but its just not in the best interest of the USSF right now.

Its an important tourney don't get me wrong but please get off your high horse, no team other then Mexico has sent their A team to the Copa America the last two editions so please stop ranting. Answer me this whens the last time Brazil or Argentina or even teams like Uruguay or Paraguay brought in their full roster to the Copa America.

Bottom line Bradley isn't making excuses your reading WAY into his comments. Hes gonna try his best with what he'll have available, its more important for our players progression for them to start off the preseason with their club teams overseas its that simple. If they play the Copa America and get hurt they may lose their spot at their clubs. Besides no other South American team is gonna be playing in two tournies anyway it would be unfair to ask our Euros to play both with such little rest.

Juancho what are you talking about? The SA teams are not going to be playing in 2 tournaments, others here are correct in saying the players wont be realeased for both tournatments even if Bob wants them to. He also says "We are fully prepared to put together good rosters for both events".

I guess you peolpe didn't notice that Argentina and Brazil (the 2 finalists) consisted of more than 80% of players that actually went to the WC. Stop trying to act like those teams haven't even tried to take this tournament seriously.

Isn't that why Jurgen Klinsmann didn't come to terms? He wanted to make Int'l tourneys a priority, no?

Now the US is stuck with a "local" coach.

Then send them back home before the Gold Cup.

The USA's top priority is to make the Confederations cup. Why, i have no clue, but that seems to be the main reason.

However, COPA can be beneficial if the rosters are staggered right. If the USA has identified young players that will be likely involved with qualifying, and possibly 2010, this experience will be beneficial, regardless of the total team makeup

I suppose the allure of competitive football against the European champions and whoever wins the Copa (which the USSF is saying won't be the US, which is kind of damning I think). But still, you could probably field a close to Gold Cup calibre winning side even with a domestic team, and send the big boys for a baptism of fire in the Copa America.

Add to that that it's three to five matches at the World Cup venues, at the same time of year the WC will be played - an opportunity to work out team logistics, training, etc...under tournament conditions, and the experience could be invaluable. So, "close to a Gold Cup calibre winning side" won't cut it. Gold Cup is the priority.

The US is not going to win the Copa America. If we used Emmitt Brown's DeLorean and plucked out our all-time best 23 in their prime, we might have a shot at winning it, but since Dr. Brown -and more to the point, his car - aren't available, gaining a berth in the Confed Cup isn't happening by that particular route. As much as I wish otherwise...

So, bowing to reality, since the Gold Cup comes first, that's the tournament we get our Euro players to.

Which means our domestic guys get a "baptism of fire" one year before World Cup qualification starts.

How is that a bad thing?

I wish, it would've been a great opportunity but the U20 WC is basically gonna be going on the exact same time as teh Copa America.
