California doesn't need anymore MLS teams or sports teams for that matter. Just get in your car and drive.

The California Surf, huh? You know, it occurs to me that the Rams' move to St. Louis was a historical redress of the Stars' move to Anaheim. Imagine the West Coast in 1981; pro teams in Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, San Jose, Los Angeles, Anaheim, and San Diego. By '82, LA and Anaheim are out, by '83 Portland, '84 Seattle, and by 1985 only San Diego remains.

As much as I would love to see MLS in Anaheim (only minutes away from me), I'd have to say "nay" because simply because the demand for a soccer team isn't there. The Galaxy are already having a tough time to get people coming to games.

Well, I don't think it has to be Anaheim (the only land could be at the Edison Field parking lot), it could be at Titan Stadium (about 5 miles north of Anaheim), or I think I better spot would be at the former El Toro Air Force Base. But the Galaxy have tried to tap into the O.C. market with games at Titan, and Carson will be much closer to O.C. than Pasadena is.
IMO, if there ever is a 2nd So Cal team, I'd Like to see it in the Inland Empire (western San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, approximately 1.3 million and growing at absurd rates). Carson will be much farther for the IE to get to Galaxy games than Pasadena, the land is cheap, and the people out here are itching for major sports team out here, not just our 3 Single A baseball teams.
Prime spot would be Ontario, right across the street from Ontario Mills mall, the largest tourist attraction in the state, and plenty of restaurants around and more to be built.
Also, the newspaper coverage for MLS is very decent out here. Garber's "State of the League" address made the front sports page for at least two of the three papers in the IE.

I'd love Riverside county as well.
Although then i'd be torn between the Galaxy and the new team.
We had a D3 team for one year, but that fell apart, like Riverside County Elite.
We lost our minor league baseball team a couple of times.

One solution is put a team in North San Diego County.... Maybe near Carlsbad. From there it is around 45 minutes to most of Orange County. That way you can be right between the San Diego Franchise and the Galaxy.

Don't forget that Disney is trying as hard as possible to get out of both MLB and the NHL... The reason? Because Anaheim has shown it cannot support either of those teams (despite some good attendance performance). Despite being in a solid market, both of those teams are concsidered mid market. There won't be expansion to a city that struggles to support what it already has.

Well, Disney has done a horrible job managing these teams. The Mighty Ducks had constant sell outs their first few seasons in the league, sold more merchandise than anyone in the NHL, but then Disney decided to let them suck, and now they had the worst attendance in the league. The Angels are doing alright, if they keep up the winning, attendance will be fine. Disney thought the stadium would sell itself.
It's hard to say when it comes to Orange County, the fans are different than people even from L.A. and if you're looking for the opposite of a Philadelphia sports fan, O.C. is where to look.

I happen to believe that Anaheim and LA in general don't deserve more than one team at this point in time. I would be highly in favor of adding San Diego as a franchise however, I think they have a great area to draw from, putting the team in an area like Carlsbad would be great, having friends in the Orange County area I know they would go out to games if they only had a 45 minute ride, it's hard to get to games when it's over an hour to the Rose Bowl, I don't know SoCal well enough to know if the move to Carson helps the peopel of Orange County out or whatever, but that is an area rich with soccer and support in my view, MLS needs to tap into that as much as they can, maybe even a team in Orange County could do some good.

Helps the people on OC a bunch....those of us in Pasadena will be arriving late for midweek games now as the drive down the 110 is a bitch.

With the GaLAxy in Carson next year, they will be 30 miles closer to Anaheim than they are now. Galaxy should draw from Orange County when they move there. I think that leaves Anaheim out as a logical place for expansion, particularly when you consider the alternatives (Philadelphia, Houston, one of the Pacific Northwest cities, etc.)
Certainly if and when MLS expands, the goal will be to cover a geographical areas not represented, so a third team in California would likely be a pretty low priority.

The Galaxy already plays Open Cup games in Fullerton. We don't need an Orange County team in MLS. An A-League team in Orange County might work, but I don't think MLS should be expanding there until the Galaxy's routinely selling out a 30,000-seat stadium.

Personally, I don't think that Anaheim shouldn't get a team. If they put another team in California the only place it would be is San Diego. They said in '99 that they think they thats a a perfect place to put a team cause of the people. They've been to San Diego anyway, for the MLS All-star game so they know somewhat of how it would be like to have a team there.
