this will be a useful thread in terms of keeping track and ranking certain players after every NT game leading up to the World cup Qualifiers.

Goal keepers
1. Foster
2. Motta
3. Molina
4. Jerez
5.???

Defenders

1. Melgar ( CHILE TOP flight)
2. Gustavo Cabrera
3. Nestor Martinez
4. Yoni Flores
5. Angel Sanabria
6. Elmer Ponancio
7. medina
8. albizuris

Midfield
1.Guillermo "EL Pando" Ramirez
2.Mario Rodriguez
3.Freddy Thompson
5. Jose Manuel Contreras
6. Marvin Avila
7. florencio Martinez
8. Quinonez
9. Howell
10. lester ruiz
11.Garcia
12. Noriega
13. de Matta

Forwards
1. Carlos "el pescado" Ruiz ( MLS)
2. Dwight " el Tanque" Pezzarossi ( Spain 2nd/ unnattached?)
3. Wille Sims ( MLS),,, Available for GC/WCQ
4. Hernan Sandoval
5. Edwin Villatoro
6. transito Montepeque
7. Estrada
8.M. Lopez
9. Johnny Brown

as you can see Foster has cemented himself as the leader of goal

Pando leads all MF in goals this year and has done well, despite no being called up for the UNCAF

Thompson. at 24 has became a potent MF, very skilled and europe is knocking
Avila and Contreras are the best U21 and u 23 players we have at the moment they have moved up quick in the last year.

Pezzarossi and Ruiz , in spite of being absent for the UNCAF are cemented in the 1 and 2 posistion for a while, followed by Sims who could debut for Guatemala soon, he is 3rd in terms of talent and the league strength he plays in.

its funny that now if you think about Guatemala is playing with alot of 2nd and 3rd stringers in the UNCAF at many posistions

the upcoming friendlies after the GC i would like to see some of the top ranked players get recalled to define the team for the GC and the WCQ. 2007 is a crucial year for Expeirence to be accumalated, and if you see it from the outside , el bolillo might be a genius ?

Sanabria is in the second league right now, so tough to make him a defender on the team.

Our midfield is just awful. Avila and Contreras may have cute moves, but are absolutely dreadful at connecting with teammates. Poor, poor, poor passing. If those two guys are 4 and 5 (with Loco and Pando as penciled in starters) then we're in trouble.

As per Thompson, he's proven to have no bite at all. Very disappointing this UNCAF Cup. I also don't know where this "European is knocking" talk comes from. We may see things in the paper, but as we discussed in another thread, until the kid actually falls in camp with a club on trial, I won't believe it. Too many guys are considered "Euro bound" and it's just the rumor mill. He's got a problem: he's small and he plays the contention spot - that doesn't play out well in Europe.

Sorry for the dreary post.

Fixed your post.

like i said you try to set the standards to high, and use the high standards that are set by the US fans on this board. we are a smaller country , with less resources and we are able to produce well, maybe not enough to go but we are closer then ever. you are very pessimistic and expect Shevchenco or Ronaldhino like pedigree, but when you look at the bigger picture , every one in the Concacaf are not in thier best Playing form evry one is on the same page.
be proud of our current status, look at the accomplishments at the local level
Our Country was good enough to send a team to the top 8 Clubs in the CCC, qualify to the Gold Cup with 2nd and 3rd stringers. we won 2 straight, and draw one against the Host of the tournement, with 2nd string team.

In the GK Molina went up 1 spot after shutting out ES.

Albizuris moves up after a big improvement versus Panama and ES, not to mention his goal.
In the Midfielders a few changes occur, Mario takes over number 1 spot after his brace on sunday in league action. Garcia moves up after his incredible 20 minutes vs ES.

Top 3 in the forwards remain unchanged , but Villatoro moves down after a horrid UNCAF and the Cremas attack duo Montepeque and Estrada move up playing inspired in league action.

Comments please!!

Yes.

anyone hear that Enzo trozzero , recomended Melgar to Chile, and said the only Guatemala can get better is if they play regularly in better leagues.

and that he only recomends players that deserve to play in stronger leagues and that is good. heard it on Lared radio show, interview

also if you goto FC dallas web site and look at Fc dallas TV , they talk to Santeliz, who speaks english very well. he also has double nationality Guatemalan and US. he might move up the list if he gets signed

Yeah, I saw the roster list on 3rd degree, its says he also has US citizenship, I didnt know that. Im gonna go watch what you said on FCDTV. They said in the fcd forum that theres only 2 spots left and Santelíz is competing for one. Hopefully he makes it.

Did you hear that about Melgar on los rojos' show?? I remember I listened to it once, but forgot what time it airs, its like 5 or 6 central/guate time??

The US doesnt recognize double nationality, but Guatemala does.

yup the usa allows one to have it but the US doesn't recognize it, so once i became american i kept my Guatemalan citzenship in guatemala and american citzenship, so in that case double nationality applies over there.

The part about having players in stronger leagues goes without saying. Having our players in better stronger leagues around the world would make Guatemalan soccer better by leaps and bounds. Not only that, but appearing in a WC would get our national players noticed and SERIOUSLY looked at.

Look at what it's done for the U.S. and Mexican NT's, they have guys all over Europe playing in strong leagues HELL without having to look too far, look at Costa Rica. When you have players in stronger leagues they bring great soccer to their NT's which eventually leads them to WC's.

Point is, if we dont have more guys from Guate out in the world playing fast, technical soccer in strong leagues we'll keep being the team who "almost made it" every 4 years.

I agree
look at Foster his Play between the sticks in intl' tourney, already have rumors of him going to Pachuca as a starting keepr next season.

Melgar is playing a faster pace soccer in Chile sharpening his marking skills, and Ruiz is competing in league with large quick defenders, were he will be playing in the MLS/MFL Superliga, where finishing is a must. Sims grew up playing in a better infrastructure and now plays in the MLS.

if we could get a few young guys to impress and play more competitively abroad , we will have players who have the edge over the rest.

well some changes and some new entrys in to the list.

in the keeper list Motta moves to 2nd , with his play for municipal, but Foster stays at first at he keeps his team winning. molina drops after getting his ass handed to him by comunicaciones.

Defense. Albizuris proving to be a speedy threat and is improving his marking skilss, and moves up. Melgar cements his spot at the top as he mans the back for the Chilean Premier league team AntoFagasta, a strong performance by him as he plays 90 minutes vs O'higgins

in the Midfielders, Mario stays at the top, socring a hattrick vs Zacapa and now is the league golden boot leader.

a new entry, some of you might rememeber this tall Left midfielder from the World cup run , when he saved us twice and handed us the game winning set ups for guatemala vs CR in 2004 and panama in 2005, he intially disappeared after a "banned substances" was found in him, banning him from the 2006 clausura and the National team for 6 months, yes Mynor "la flechita" Davila! he was struggling to be fit last apertura , but this season he looks to be finding form, and he now gives us option on the Left and in the middle. he seems to be playing at the level he was at 2005/2006 before the Scandal. he is a true setup man, skilled, big 6'1, and plays well on the defensive and offensive side of the flanks. this kid is now 24 , and its good to have him back and playing, ill give him 1 months and a half to prove me , but i can see Bolillo give him a chance in the near future. i always liked this kid, when i saw him for Zacapa he was their only option of scoring, im glad he found a team after everything was said in done. iMHO he is going to be our LM in 2010. marked my word, i called JMC being in the mix, Avila, etc Davila will be on the Left mark my word. he was there in 04 , and 05 at 22, this guy is good.

forward unchanged, but J.Estrada rises as he carries the scoring load for las Kremas, since Hernan Sandoval is recovering from a injury, which he almost recovered from.

well with these recent developments i can expect lots of suprises and changes for la convocatoria vs Barbados and USA
