The hard truth is a short while ago when Glenn Roeder was "managing" our team, the vast majority of West Ham fans were praying for a new owner with some dosh and Curbs to be our manager. Our prayers were answered,we got both.
Hypothetically,if Curbs was fired, who the hell is out there to replace him that is remotely any good and would want to come to us (please dont say Dowie).Pardew came in at a certain time to do a certain job which he accomplished, but proved to have a few shortcomings at the highest level.
The regular posters on this site have often made comments about most of our team as Championship league players at best, which has proved true this year.

What he said.
Devil welcome back. Elland turned up on goalposts about a year back, then got banned in a day from memory.

Devildogroot, now there's a name I haven't heard in a few years and I still don't know what it means.
Didn't know that about EG Scout.
I think it's easy to condemn AC during this bad run and talk about finding a better manager, etc. But to have a proven PL manager in the CCC is an enviable thing that not alot of teams down there have. Remember that Pardew took about a season before we started to see his influence take shape.
I wasn't sure about AC's appointment when he arrived simply because I didn't see what he offered that Pardew didn't, except for experience. But the change has been made and there's nothing we can do about it. Like everyone has said, who would we get to replace him?
On the fairly safe assumption that we will get relegated I think it will help our cause greatly if we have a proven quality manager to rebuild the squad and don't have to go through the process of appointing someone new and having them settle in before commencing the new season.

I dont blame Curbs at all, in fact I still think that he is the right man for the job if anyone is. I remember Pardew had the same problems when he first took over with players turning up for training late or not turning up at all. That I'm afraid is the culture of our club, and one that seemed to overcome Pardew in the end.
So, who is to blame? Not Curbs (and its ridiculous to be calling for his head so early), Not Pards, not Roeder, Not Harry. I think it goes back even further and may be is even a result of the player power exercised around the time of Malcolm Allison et al.
Is suspect that the whole club, and maybe the whole area, has a kind of 'Alf Tucker of the track' mentality of 'I'll drink 12 pints of beer, get meself some fish and chips and still beat the bastards'. I know I act like that sometimes (OK well all the time), but it just doesnt cut it these days.
Changing that kind of deeply ingrained culture is going to be a long hard and brutal piece of work (even if these days it comes across as 3 lines of coke, a pina colada and some dodgy sushi). I think we have one of the few managers capable of doing it.
So I hope we stay up, but even if we dont, I have hope for the future. I just dont expect it to be pretty

Alf tucker, now that takes me back, what was it Victor or Hotspur ?? LOL
The one I always liked was the mystery football team where players got kidnapped and were in this hidden stadium then played all the big teams and beat them. Can't remeber the name of that strip. Was it X team or something ?
That's what they should do with the Academy, feed them haggis and move them to the Shetland islands so they have no distractions, like gambling, drugs, booze okay so maybe not the booze, just lots of sheep !!! ;)

You're right, Tupper not Tucker; HE was in Grange hill until he moved to Walford and got aids.
My point still remains; the culture of the club dont cut it

Sheep can be quite distracting if youre lonely and have a handy pair of wellies.
Oh and it was the Victor

Posts like yours and West Hams give me hope for the club. God there is some absolute rubbish being posted on some sites.

Haha thanks for putting me straight on not Tucker/but Tupper so it was the Victor. My parents still have about 500 copies from the 60's in the attic. One day I'll sit down and read them again.
W ham could play in wellies and still beat Charlton, I hope !

Yes it must have been Victor. My dad got hotspur when he was a kid, then i had to have it because he still wanted to read it.
Wellies that reminds me, back in the days i used to go in the Green Man Leytonstone. There was an old drunk in the public bar always had wellies on. He would start dancing when he was really pissed. The then publican a very friendly guy would make references about him being Welsh and loving sheep.
I was only about 15 and thought it all hillarious.

Typical! I make serious reference to the underlying culture of the club and make reference to a fictional poletarian over-achiever. Within a page we're all discussing defunct comics and sex with welly clad welsh sheep!
LMFAO!
I'm just glad I didnt mention Billy's Boots or Lags XI
