Try-outs are coming up in two weeks and i was wondering if any of u guys had some tips. I started for J.V. (High School) last year (sophmore year) and got a lot of playing time. I'm not a real flashy player, mostly just smart and good at passing. I usually play as well as the team around me, meaning I'm not really an individual talent. what would you guys recommend i do to get better at my ball skills or just to improve my game in general? any comments or tips would be greatly appreciated

So you seem to be set :) You should be improving your technique all the time not just before the tryouts, then you have nothing to worry about. Just be as useful to the team as possible and have fun!

dribble around some cones, if you are a below average dribbler this will make you much better in a short amount of time

Lol you don't have ball control issues? There's only one player I know of who doesn't have ball control issues and his name starts with a Z. Yes juggling will improve your game.

I have four tips for you (as a HS Soccer coach):
1- Juggle like crazy. This will drastically improve your first touch.
2- Watch high quality professional soccer as often as you can (and really watch it. Pay attention to how the players move with and without the ball).
3- Play in as many small-sided and/or indoor games as you can. The biggest change you can expect from JV to Varsity is in the speed of play. Small-sided games (3v3, 4v4, etc) and indoor help you to make smart decisions quicker.
4- This is the big one. Go into tryout week in the best shape of your life. Every time there is a drill, run or activity, your goal should be to be the guy leading the pack. Tryouts are generally pretty short. It's tough to see which players have real talent and which ones are just having a good/bad week. When a player comes into tryouts in that kind of shape and with that kind of attitude, it's almost a guarantee to get noticed in a good way.
Good luck.
