There are probably hundreds of ways to set up a nutmeg, some are harder than others. Some people have a natural instict for completing the nutmeg. what is the way you use the most? also if there is a video clip of it of some pro doing it try to show it.
Since Im not to good at nutmegging, the only way I use if is I have my back to the defender and he tries to put his body on me. Then I use my foot that is farthest from him and put it through his legs.

Left, right or between, I never think about "nutmegs". It simply means that the ball traveled between someones legs instead of outside the legs. Either way the man is still beat. It is not something you set up, rather its a space that the defender gives you to work with. Since feet move many times per second, I don't think it is something you predict. You just have to take advantage of the space if the defender shows it to you. Alot of good soccer is simply taking quick advantage of fleeting opportunities when you see them. That is why tactical speed and vision are important.

I like something I saw Davids do in practise in a one-touch 5v2 keepaway game. He stopped the ball with his sole and as the defender approached faked as he was gonna push it to the player next to him, so obviously since he has only one touch the defender stuck his leg out to stop it and then Davids quickly changed the direction of the ball inwards and between the legs of the defender with the tip of his toes... It's really fun to do. and works surprisingly well.
And now I'm gonna tell you the most amazingly retarded nutmeg-story. There was a guy in my club who's really talanted technically and likes to do nutmegs a lot. And once he was dropped to the reserve team for disciplinary reasons. And once he missed practise and came to the 3rd team practise and nutmegged 3 separate players with 3 touches. Now that's just ridiculous. I was like "Now I've seen everything".

I think also the best nutmegs are when you don't tap or kick the ball but roll it with your sole, the ball travels so slowly and thus is so much more humiliating ;)

The best way to do it for me, someone who is fast-ish in a straight line but not the fastest on cuts and turns, is to actually be moving. You have a much better chance of nutmegging someone if their legs are doing the running motion... because it makes for a natural hole for you to pass it through, and also if you're expecting to do it, your defender is going to already be running one direction while you're taking the first step of your direction change. It's all about the timing of your kick and the accuracy of the "tap" to get it through.
A good way to practice the technique of having a good soft touch for a nutmeg is to take two soccer balls out dribbling. Kick one about 5 feet from you, then hit the second ball with a kick from the closer one...basically playing pool. Don't need to smash it, it should be a light touch. Do this in a "chain reaction" type of thing... kick one then switch to the other... etc etc etc...

Yip, like Campo vs Clichy.
I I did the same to my coach (who played in the Scottish 2nd Ddivision a couple of years back). It kept him well quiet!:p

I like to stop the ball under my foot and turn so that my shoulder is facing the defender (depending which foot i stop the ball under, use right shoulder for right foot, and left for left). Then i quickly push the ball away from me (with my foot still on it) and pull it back to my left foot which i use to rebound the ball between their legs. When im running I just touch it through when the opportunity arises:D

i know man. those are sooo sick..i've only done it one time though, when i was shielding the ball in the corner...the defender was running towards me and i just flicked my heel back and it rolled right through.

Yeah, the best nutmegs happen when you just roll the ball between the defender's legs.I come from a Futsal background, and it happens a lot.I do believe it's the best environment to practice such thing.

I feel that i am fairly good at nutmegs but i think the hardest to pull off are megs at fast pace. When the defender and you are shoulder to shoulder and your trying to cut it to the side and meg them. But personally i like to meg by pushing it to the side and then putting it through their legs.

my favorite is the ones where you trap the ball then meg the defender in one fluid motion

I generally delay playing the ball until the defender sticks his leg out to create the space. Not very flair-ish, but whatever works I guess.
Oh, and I usually pass the ball or shoot doing that, rather than actually dribbling past players.

That's me doing it just a week back. I couldn't resist turning the video into a gif. It was my first ever in a real game. Basically, I suck at dribbling, so for the past few months, I've been kicking a ball in this confined box I call a room. I practice kicking the ball through the legs of my chair and things like that, and it built up my confidence, which resulted in this ! :D

I love it when their legs are hardly open but the pass through the legs is so accurate and well hit it just blazes through there. I also like doing sideways nut megs when the player is running along side you and you have to time it just right to get the ball through there legs.
I like it when the defender is on your right and you are square to the pass coming in but you take it on your outside foot and turn and bam its right through there legs and its so unexpected.
I either say 'megs' or 'shut your legs' - lol

OMG, those moments are PRICELESS. Drop a shoulder just before receiving the ball, and then do that, 50/50, you're gonna leave him sprawling! Best done on a soaking wet pitch, when falling down gets your undies all wet and gah. :D

I'd say one of the best way to "cookie" an opponent is when they are running at you full speed and you simply roll the ball between their legs either that or doing an elastica. I have done tha latter only twice

I've done the elastico once (for sure, it wasn't a pleasing sight ) but it got this defender I was up against to spread, and i rolled a pass through his legs to a mate who was running down the side. Classy move that, but I take no credit, it was nearly accidental :$
