Terracing. Too bad the FA is pig headed and think it's still the 1980s.

err... what are your ticket prices like? Cuz, I can't see too many people shelling out 45GBP to stand up. The fans have changed. I suppose if the terracing is put in and the price for that section is drastically lowered it would make sense. Then again, you'll end up with the same income for 65K as you would for 35K (just a guess) and it would come at a great cost.
That said, I'd much rather stand in the terraces for 10 matches than sit in a seat (when all you do is stand up and sing anyway :) ) for 3.

There's already a campaign going for that funnily enough(http://www.standupsitdown.co.uk/), quite successfully I think.
It's fairly achieveable as well as long as it's done in small sections. Plus of course with technology, it's certainly nowhere near as unsafe as it used to be.

I think with the problems recently in Italy and UEFA's safety regs this may not happen for quite awhile.

The Hun have it in some stadiums, limited sections - I don't think thay have had any issues with it.
There is simply no comparison between the two though, standing is far superior in terms of atmosphere generation.
I get a grea tkick out of al lthe suits that say you can sing and generate atmosphere whilst sitting.
These are people that have never stood in a home section, they've spent their whole football lives sitting in corporate seats!

I agree I think part of the reason that away games are better for atmosphere is that people in the way section tend to stand and the stuards let them get away with it.
This is def the case at the Bridge where people in the Matthew Harding stand are told to sit while the away fans stand the whole 90 mins.

A standing only section - terraces in the Chelsea end only - increase the capacity to 60,000 - away supporters sit down and shut up :D

I think why did we put the stupid hotel on the stand we could of shifted it over and had bigger stands then there would be no problem with capacity

I was reading an article in W.S.C. (I think?) about it coming back which sounded quite optimistic, but it finished with listing several big reasons why it wouldn't, so in reality it was just a few quotes from people without enough influence to actually change anything saying it would be feasible.:o
It'd be nice to go back to it, but I just don't think it'll happen. I'll read the article and try to remember the salient points.

My understanding was that it wasn't entirely about bigger stands, but capacity considering the surrounding area, tube stations, local council, local residents, infrastructure, etc etc.

As far as the current limit goes that is absolutely correct, safety regulations re ingress/egress are the limiting factors.
As to why the hotels were built in the first place that was down to cuddly Ken, he wanted to build "Chelsea Village" first and foremost, under this scheme the football club was a mere tenant. This was the cause of much friction between him and Matthew Harding.

would make sense, that's what slowed down approval for the Emirates.

ah, but the question is where?
I like the present location, walking distance to many great boozers, much preferable to a business park location on the edge of town.

The Bridge has such a history, though. It predates CFC, it is so closely tied to the history of Chelsea. Then again, if Liverpool can leave Anfied then surely Chelsea can leave the Bridge. It would be a sad day, though.

When I did the tour last spring the talk by the guide was that the club was working on a plan to build a bridge over the tracks, and perhaps a new station, in the back to add adequete egress/ingress, especially in the event of an evacuation as required.
And as Monkee said far too many good boozers in the area, as well as the club history (not to mention personal history with said boozers and the eastern european women that make them work:D ) to ever allow consideration of moving elsewhere.

Whatever you do, don't move to a new plastic stadium on a retail park, it's a bad idea, it ruins the match-day experience.
