From the latest update of Deloitte's "Football Money League", the twenty clubs with the highest revenues in Europe in the 2005-06 season. Some interesting patterns- Lots of English clubs, including West Ham, who seem to have improved their situation a lot just by being in the Premiership. Italian clubs do very well with the TV money (I think because they can make individual club contracts), but poorly at the gate.

Does Westham really earn more money than Everton and Aston Villa? Goodison Park is bigger than Upton Park and Everton only compete with Liverpool in their city while Westham compete with a lot more clubs in London. How come Westham is so wealthy?

Well, London's several times bigger than Liverpool, so #4 in London's probably not a bad deal compared with #2 in Liverpool. Also, London ticket prices are ridiculous (see Chelsea and Arsenal taking Barca/Madrid-sized gate receipts at 40k-ish seater stadiums). And both Everton and Villa have shown up on these lists in recent years, so I think it's safe to guess that neither was very far outside the top 20 last year, and both only made slightly less than West Ham did. The run to the FA Cup final probably didn't hurt the Hammers' wallets either.

I don't think this list takes player transfers into account.

No it just takes standard operating revenue into account. I'm surprised how high commercial revenue is. Other than sponsorship and merchandising, what is included in that?
That list is interesting as it shows how some English teams are massively underperforming. Just shows how important good management is.

Yes, Liverpool for a start. With their huge worldwide fan base they should be wealthier. Nobody can tell me Bayern Munchen or Inter Milan for example have more fans worldwide than Liverpool do. Rick Parry and co have fumbled the ball a lot in recent years and not exploited the potential to the hilt. Hopefully the two Americans will rectify this. Liverpool's Far East popularity alone should put them much higher up.
I doubt if Bayern Munchen or Inter Milan would sell out 60,000 and 70,000 stadiums in the Far East , or anywhere outside their own countries for that matter, as Liverpool have done only recently.

yeah i dont really like this list to be honest lol even though im english i think its worrying how dominant the english clubs could become due to there wealth.
alos the revenue from tickets sales is interesting. shows how expensive the premiership is now compared to germany or spain its like the price of aston martin(Premiership) and a ford(La liga Bundesliga)

erm sry but Bayern München plays in a different league compared to Liverpool.
Bayern München is germanys #1 since 35 years and is till today still also successfull at international level.
Ofc Bayern has nowadays to suffer due to the fact that the Bundesliga isnt anymore at the same level as england, spain or even italy (which can simply be blamed on money) but this doesnt dimish their past and the huge fanbase they have created.
Bayern München had no problem to get sold out stadiums in asia.
Then it should also be mentioned that Bayern is probably the healthiest big football club out there. Instead of huge debs, like all other clubs seem to have, they own a bank account with over 100 million euros waiting to get spent, not to mention that they built a new stadium which is paid by them.
The huge commercial income of Bayern is also explained by the simple fact the Bundesliga is the biggest national football market and due to the fact that in germany is still a lot of free league football sponsors and so on will pay more.

Actually, Bayern has a bigger fanbase worldwide and they certainly did sell out the stadium when they played in Japan just last summer. Bayern's popularity in the far east is only growing.

This list isn't really accurate in telling us true wealth, just commercial income. Isn't there a list out there that shows the top ten wealthiest clubs with their debts and other revenues factored in?

i would say that they are about equal really but only because apart from the european cup liverpool have not really been that succesfull in recent times, and if any team has bigger fan base then the other i would say liverpool probably have a slightly larger fan base.
also, dont kid yourself that bayern is bigger then liverpool in the far east because thats totally wrong. Manu Liverpool and real madrid are all massive there. Mainly because places like china receive the premiership matches. did you know that 100 million roughly watch each match. thats the most amount of people watching a league not from there own country.

The list is fairly accurate. it is as i would expect especially with the premeirship having so many teams in due to how the tv money gets filtered through the premeirship and not just individual selling of tv rights.
also it is impossible to include transfer revenue and expenditure and chairmen/president wealth etc etc
i think we would all agree that Chelsea is actually the richest club in the world as there owner puts in whatever he wants.

Yes germany is a bigger country then england ( 49 million) and italy(55 million) spain(dunno what spains populations is) france (58 million). But its doesn't create bigger sponsors just because of this.
just thought i would add that deloitte said on sky sports news that man u would jump to second in the next few years because the sponsorship money from nike and aig was not included or something or another, i didn't reall understand it to be honest.
also did any one find it weird that man u rejected the bid to sponsor there shirts from mansion( i think) even though it was the biggest shirt sponsorhip deal in football. then accepted a smaller bid from aig. apperently aig is one of the banks that lent the moeny to the glazers family. maybe they have smaller interest to pay on there loans as part of the deal.

man u is still the most profitable club in the world according to deloitte.
i know man u have big debts but that because glazer himself isn't paying for man united his making the fans pay for him through ticket sales and that.

!. Bayern Games are live in Asia too.
2. German clubs get less TV money because pay-tv is not as established as in other countries, and will never be. Reason:
Because of the big advertisment market of 120 mio german speaking people in central Europe, a big free commercial TV system with around 15 big nationwide stations and uncountable local and theme stations was established long before Pay-TV was invented.
Additional to this, every german has to pay a monthly fee for the state TV system, with 2 nationwide stations, local stations for the 16 federal states, that by cable or sat nowadays are also receivable nationwide, news channels, culture channels, digital channels, german-french channel Arte, german-swiss-austrian channel 3sat.
All in all, every german household can watch about 40 free full programmas and uncountable theme channels and local stations.
Pay-TV needs two columns: Movies and Football, but the big competition of the broadcasters leads to free airing of all big movies half a year later than the Pay-TV. So Pay-Tv has only about 4 mio. customers in Germany, which means less money from them for the Bundesliga.
3. Live Bundesliga games are exclusively aired on pay-tv, but round-ups of the saturday afternoon matches are on free TV at 18:30 and 22:30 on saturday, 10:00 on sunday and the 2 sunday afternoon games at 22:00 on sunday. That means:less exclusivity for pay-tv and therefore less money from pay-tv station, but much more money from sponsors, because about 120 mio. people are able to watch their advertisments for free.
4. Therefore Bayern has the biggest income from sponsorships of all ckubs in the world.
5. Bayern has a fanbase of about 15 mio. people in Germany alone, more than 2500 registered official fanclubs, and is one of the biggest social sportsclubs in the world, with more than 125.000 members.
6. Bayern has 159 mio. € on the bank, while most of the others have big debts and need their yearly money infusion from the Abramovices, Agnellis, Berlusconis.
7. Since the foundation of the Championsleague, Bayern earned in combination the most of prize and TV moneys from it of all european clubs.

All in all, every german household can watch about 40 free full programmas and uncountable theme channels and local stations.this could account for the less substantial tv money deals

due to bayern being the only true super power in gemrna football. whereas in england there are at least 3 maybe 4
5. Bayern has a fanbase of about 15 mio. people in Germany alone, more than 2500 registered official fanclubs, and is one of the biggest social sportsclubs in the world, with more than 125.000 members.
6. Bayern has 159 mio. € on the bank, while most of the others have big debts and need their yearly money infusion from the Abramovices, Agnellis, Berlusconis.lol maybe this is why they are struggling to keep up with real, barca, milan, chelsea, man u
7. Since the foundation of the Championsleague, Bayern earned in combination the most of prize and TV moneys from it of all european clubs.
to me the main reason why bayern earn such a large amount from sponsorship is due to th bundesliga not having enough massive teams. 15million in one country for a fan base is pathetic this should not be. the german fa should try to cut it down. i bet those most of these fans have never been to a bayern game though have they and alot might not even have any bayern merchindise.

The list is fairly accurate.
I think it was last night.. Anyway, on The Fox Soccer Report they stated that the numbers for the top teams were totally misleading as Man Utd report the net and the others (not sure if they meant all) report the gross..
Just reporting what they said..
I have no idea how each team does the numbers.
