according to 'The People' newspaper, following the collapse of the liverpool takeover by sheikh mohammeds DIC company, it has been reported that the company will now bid around £450 milion. i had a feeling that a rumour like this was going to arise and im not to sure about the seriousness of it. something to discuss though.
if anyone were going to take complete control of the club tho, i would prefer it to be this lot, for what they have done in their other UK investments
ill post a link to the story when i find one.

Ouch! Matt, I repped you for the first post, and yet subsequently you seem to reveal that you don't know who Frank Zappa is? Can I take the rep back? ;)

I can't believe you children don't recognize Frank Zappa.

Sheikh Mohammed has shown a willingness to spend literally billions on quality horseflesh. He surrounds himself with great talent evaluators and it's not an accident that 2 of the 3 American Triple Crown races and the Breeders Cup Classic were all won by horses owned by the various members of the Maktoum family.
That said, Arsene Wenger's great strength is finding the undiscovered talent ant making the most of it. He sounds like the perfect match for the Sheikh, but, if the Sheikh wants to buy every over-the-hill big name that goes by, I could see Wenger losing his patience and deciding to pursue other opportunities.

this is always what i worry about when i hear of arsenal being a target for a takeover. its the biggest problem we could face with any takeover. but, from what i hear about the liverpool takeover, he sounds like a good investor.

If he wants the club to succeed, and believes in the ways of David Dein and Wenger, and won't get in their way, then this could be a good thing in the long run. From the liverpool boards it doesn't sound like he is the glazer type of investor, and could really set the team up for success in the long run.
Potential upsides:
He would clear all of our debt
We would have a huge transfer chest with no debt/new stadium(which a new manager would need when wenger eventually retires)
Arsenal could expand its youth academies+scouting and possibly set up youth facilities across the world to continue the stream of talent.
With the huge amount of resources talentwise + financially, Dein and Wenger would probably be able to build the strongest/most stable team to ever exist.
Downsides:
Foreign owned club - not going to go over well with english fans
He is bound to interfere with something, and ruin the perfectly run machine that is Arsenal

He is. And the one thing that reassures me is that in his racing business, while he buys the best available, he doesn't just send those horses to the biggest name trainers. He has really smart people who he works with, who are never the biggest names, but always get results on par with the biggest operations out there.
I'm a big fan of the Maktoums.

I'm by no means an expert on Arsenal's financial state or anything of the sort, but I get the impression that the club is in good, steady hands. Am I the only one who thinks that Arsenal are the only big club in the world left with any integrity at all? (along with Barcalona)
I absoloutely love what our team is doing by building our future around young men who happen to be very talented. At times I am in awe about how well our staff scouts players and for the most part shys away from breaking the bank on just one individual.
In all honesty, if I could choose between our current ownership and say, Roman Abromovich (sp?), I would choose what we have in a heartbeat.

I think you guys have and are doing a great job on the pitch and off. Your financial standing as grown at the fastest rate in the EPL I think. So now the golden goose as flown south! I think that they will make you guys what MCUFC has been in the last decade only you'll have a few more trophies with funny ears. These guys are ruthless winners. At the very least I would consider any offer made by Frank Zappa.....that is until he starts "Bullying" you.

I really hope something like this doesn't happen. Results are much more enjoyable when you earn them.
