My brother and I have decided that we are going on an Old Trafford/Anfield trip next year. Anfield because he is a Liverpool fan and he wants to get in there before they build their new stadium.
A couple of questions....we would like to do it in 1 weekend e.g. one game on a Saturday and the other on the Sunday. I know the season schedules come out during the summer but when do "big" games get switched to Sundays?
Also, what is the best way to get tickets? Through one united?

May not be too enlightening, but I was under the impression that big games are moved to Sunday for either
a) Tv scheduling. The broadcasters have huge amounts of power to switch fixtures into primetime positions and other beneficial times to their networks. Really considerate for fans..
b) Also sometimes if a team is in Europe on Wednesday, they get their weekend domestic fixture pushed to Sunday rest purposes.
I'm sure there are more reasons, these are just a couple I've noticed over time.

Join MUSC USA. You can buy tickets from them for $75/ea.

You don't HAVE to join. I got them and am not a member.

I'm getting kinda bored of the university deal in the states and have been planning a year or two in manchester with the main focus on being at as many united matches as possible. So how hard/easy is it to request and get season tickets? Any info on living in OT would be much appreciated...cheers

Yes, MUSCUSA is great. Also, they usually have tours that includes a United home game and sometimes game in a stadium of other EPL team; they have a tour that went to Old Trafford+Goodision Park before. If you get lucky, maybe they would come up with a Old Trafford+Anfield tour next season.

theres a pub in manchester called the ox. it also has a few hotel rooms above it for a reasonable rate. not far from train that will take you to old trafford. i stayed there when i went to OT last year. nice place.

I'm in the Uni of Manchester.
Been here since September last year and have been to a few games, but now I'm a One United member and can pretty much get to any home game if I know I want it well in advance. As for season tickets, you'd be lucky to get one by the end of your 2 years here, it's a long waiting list. But with the ticket exchange service, One United, general sale games and enough mates, you can easily get to nearly every home game and a few away games as well.
Manchester is cold and quite windy, but it doesn't/hasn't rained as much as they say it does. I'm from Kenya, not the rainiest place on earth, and I can live with this. Everything else about the city is ace.
Father Ted, the hard thing about One United is that you can only get one ticket per membership, ie you'll need more than one membership number to get many tickets at the same time. If it's just the 2 of you, I guess it wouldn't be too hard to get someone willing to volunteer his membership number for the one game though.

I'm all set with tickets(MUSCA), going to the home Wigan game on Saturday, October 6th and going with my brother to the Liverpool-Spurs game the next day(promising to shower off the slime right after). Also doing the OT tour on the Friday.
Any hotel recommendations?

There's a Holiday Inn Express at Salford Quays, maybe a mile from the stadium. Not cheap (TripAdvisor says an average price of ₤89), but its walking distance to the ground and right next to the tram if you want to go into the city.
Obviously there are a number of cheaper options in the city and surrounding areas though.

Depends what your looking for , Stayed in the Gardens Hotel when out on the town before and its grand , You get what you pay for: 50 quid a room wiv 2 beds .
Grand, You wont get Jurys or any decent ones i'd imagine due to a match day ,

Even somewhere in Bolton would be handy too

.
The waiting list is Bullshit, I know someone who just got a OU membership and he was offered a ST within a week .
Ticket Exchange is a Glorified Touting service
Only games that go on general sale are normally midweek league games Vs Watford or the Cup games (which will change now cause of the A.C.S)
You can only get away tickets if your a ST holder so dont know if you mean you get them thru club or of a tout

Spring for the Golden Tulip, it's right across from the stadium. I stayed there in Jan and it was a real nice hotel. The restaurant there is equally good.

A lot of time your Airline website has great discount on hotels. I flied with Continental and through their website I got a great deal at the Copthourne hotel.. it's right across from the Metrolink and about a 10 minutes walk to OT.

Cant get in unless your a residient though:confused: I got in for west ham but that was only to use the bogs and walked in lookin important so bouncers didnt say anything.
It'd be pricey though to stay in on a match day you'd imagine and its a 4 mile from town so wot you gonna do after game?

He's right, I'd definitely stay in town rather than near OT. The tram is easy to catch on match day and doesn't take long at all to get there. There is not much else to do around OT and not many food options there either.

Theres nothing as its an idustrial park, You can get tram from exchange quays and go into eccles for a few but it'd be better staying in town . Go out on piss that evening then

we stayed at the radisson edwardian - very nice hotel, great restaurant & bar. it was a package deal with airfare. a short walk to just about everything... on match day we tried to take the public transport to OT, but it was very crowded, and as i was VERY anxious to get to the trafford for a pint, we took a cab - it was only like 10pounds. hope to get back again this season... id like to catch a mid week euro nite along with a league match :)
