I haven't seen many of these players play, so I am going on what I have heard for a lot of these, but who are they? Here's my list of a few, but feel free to add/remove players. There is also no particular order to the list.

Matthaus
Beckenbauer
Best
Pele
Maradona
Maldini
Baresi
Garrincha
Socrates
Platini
Zidane
van Basten
Puskas
Di Stefano
Eusebio
(Fat) Ronaldo
Bobby Charlton
Gerd Muller(?)
Moore
Matthews
Banks
Zoff
Schmeichel
Carlos Alberto
Yashin

You could also make arguments for Thierry Henry, Duncan Edwards, Dixie Dean and Roy Keane to be in there, I suppose. Anyway, let's start the mass debate.

EDIT: Good God, what's wrong with me?????? I've forgotten Cruyff!!!

You honestly think Cantona was that good? apart from 5 good years in England, what did he ever do elsewhere? Or in Europe? Or internationally?

internationally - he took shit from the managers and the Federation .
Europe - He had one full season and he reached the semi's with the team.

Than again I was a bit bias :p

In my opinion, if Zidane is up that, then Rivaldo could be up there.

Passarrella, Alan Shearer, Carlos Valderamma,

I'd also include Rummenigge, Rivelino, Zico, Neeskens, Kahn, Kocsis, Hidegkuti, Rahn, F.Walter off the top of my head.

I would add one player from our current squad. Ryan Giggs, He is no doubt one of the best left wingers to ever play the game. He has enjoyed almost unparalleled success in his league and domesrtic cups, and has won the C.L.

I agree - and I would add Scholes to the list as well.

Agree with the above 2 posts. Also, he's shown his versatility in his time with us. He plays left wing, yes, but when Lee Sharpe was here Fergie would rotate the 2 between the flanks, meaning Giggsy would get a decent amount of games out there on the right. The most famous example would be the 1999 CL Final, which wasn't spectacular for him, mainly because of lack of service, but he was still quality. And now he plays center mid for us regularly, with pretty good result. An exemplary player, and he could definitely break the appearance record here at United. I think a commentator said that if he plays regularly, he'll beat the record at the end of next season. What a player.

Question: Where would you guys rank Hugo Sanchez among the annuls of greatest players?

His goal scoring record speaks for itself, and he excelled in a league where Mexicans weren't supposed to succeed. He played with some great players who have nothing but high remarks for him. He's full of himself, but with great reason.

If Cantona can be named, and even players like Lee Sharpe who never fulfilled their potential, certainly Hugo Sanchez can be placed on the list, right?

I hate Sanchez' attitude and arrogance, but he was a great player. He proved himself IMO, for example look at his Madrid goal totals. I'd put him on the list.

John O'Shea clearly belongs on this list after today. He's like Gumby.
