I don't live in Denver, I've never bought a ticket to a Colorado home game. I do not own the team. I have not been asked for my input. Since I am not a fan of the team, I have no standing to make any input. I have done no marketing research, nor do I have any credential or experience in sales or publicity. Until and unless I move to Denver and support the team, any opinion I might express about their name and colors is sheer bloviating. They can call the team Stacy for all I care.

I'm writing this just for my own sake, so I'm not tempted to go foaming at the mouth. Think of it as an AA pledge. You see, I used to be the guy who would take the top forty-eight or sixty-four metropolitan areas in the United States, and make up nicknames and logos for mythical teams. It was fun, sure, but Not Interesting, Not Relevant, and Not Helpful to People Who Actually Make Decisions. Please don't let me forget that. I know you're there for me, man.

I watched grown men call themselves the Kansas City Wiz, I can tough out anything Kroenke Sports throws at me.

The Burn was a great name! I remember I once saw a bunch of kids wearing Burn shirts so I asked them if they were fans of soccer. Turns out they were stoners of the Bevis and Butthead mold and thought that the shirts were cool and the shirts were on sale at the local Ross "Dress for less." :D  They asked me what I knew about the team and they were blown away when they learned that the Burn were a soccer team. :D

I'm not touching the "Wiz". ROFL

So SoccerNova was your sockpuppet. I knew it.

I find "Real" to be just as embarassing as "The Burn." I find "Arsenal Colrado" to be the most embarrassing name in MLS.

I know, I'll pre-empt someone from stating the obvious: even worse than "The Crew."

"Burn" was embarrassing in the sense that it sounded like the result of discussions with focus groups of 10-year olds. "Real" is stupid in the sense that it sounds like some wanna be trying in vain to be something they aren't, and that they really don't understand.

That's a hell of a choice, but I think the former is slightly more stupid.

The "Clash" was prety bad too. I thought Rocky Mountain Arsenal sounded OK to me, but like Dan, I'm not a fan of the team and no one asked me anyway.

A good MLS soccer team name that is no more, but I think sounds great. The Miami Fusion F.C. with it's team colors and logo.

Anyone else remember what the logo and colors of Fusion F.C.?

I still happen to wear a jersey of theirs from time to time.

Yeah, man, I was 12 when MLS started and I did the same thing. I still think my Chicago Blast name was a better name than Fire (Windy City, blasting a soccer ball, having fun at the games. Logo was a soccer ball zooming around the Chrysler building). Of course I had some duds like Miami Blue Wave.

I thought "The Clash" and "The Mutiny" were stupid also because those cities already had enviable nicknames associated with a great soccer history: San Jose Earthquakes and Tampa Bay Rowdies.

I dont know how you can hate Arsenal so much and yet still not be in outraged of something called "Chivas USA" that is the most STUPID thing on MLS to date and short of there being something called "Manchester United USA" it will remain the dumbest most embarrasing name in MLS.

Real is pretty dumb specialy for Salt Lake City, and Arsenal is kind of odd for Colorado though I can see how they can make a co-relation to the sight where they are building their stadium, but Chivas USA whose MENTAL FART was that?

Um...the guy who owns Chivas in Mexico...he also owns Chivas USA. Not too hard to figure where he came up with the name.

Is now a good time to start the gasoline fight about why Celtic FC is acceptable in Glasgow, but Chivas USA in Los Angeles is not? Or should I save that for a lull in the regular season?

"Kansas City Wizards" is a great name. See, Dorothy says they're not in Kansas anymore. And Kansas City isn't in Kansas! Not only is it a geography lesson, but it proves MISSOURI IS IN OZ!

Sure, people complain about the logo, but isn't time we got over the rainbow?

That isn't a gasoline fight....just kind of ignorant. There is a big difference between Wizards and Wiz as much as there is a difference between a rainbow and a golden shower. I hope the good people of K.C. can tell what that difference is. :D

So, after doing a little research, I see why this name is being chosen. The stadium in located next to (or on) the Rocky Mountain Aresenal Park. So, now the name makes sense to me. However, because the team's new logo looks similar to that of the EPL's Arsenal and because one has to dig this deep to make the connection between the name and the park, the name still stands as ridiculous and "wanna-be" sounding. Anywho, here's some info on the aresenal park.

I must add, I appreciate the cleverness of the name, but still too much for a non-Coloradoian to have to know in order to get the sense of it.

This wikipedia entry is perhaps a better explanation (if it is indeed all correct....it is wikipedia after all):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocky_Mountain_Arsenal

"The Rocky Mountain Arsenal was a United States chemical weapons manufacturing center located in the Denver Metropolitan Area in Commerce City, Colorado. The site was operated by the United States Army throughout the later 20th century and was controversial among local residents until its closure."

I club named after a WMD manufacturing center?
That is classic!
