I was wondering if anyone who has gone through an ACL tear and reconstruction could give me an idea of how soon they began doing any soccer related activities. I'm three months out from my surgery (Cadaver Graft), and have been jogging, juggling, and playing light (with a red schrimmage vest that disallows me to be tackled or to take others on, just allowed to pass) since 2 months. Just would like some of your experiences, what your timeline was like? If this is posted in the wrong forum, i'm sorry this is my first post, and I love the wealth of knowledge and opinions here, Thanks

I'm going on 5 months now on ACL reconstruction (hamstring graft). I was just now given clearence by my doctor to jog, although I've been doing so for few months now. My doctor told me he doesn't want any all out cutting or faking action until at least 6 months. I've done a little bit, but I can tell the speed is not there. I hold back because I don't want to re-tear it. I also am taking my time getting back as I don't have anything but men's league to come back to. I still go out and pass, juggle, and a bit of shooting, but as of right now I still can't get the full power in my shot.

Hope that gives you a bit of help.

ACL injuries suck. I partially tore mine back in April and haven't been able to play like I used to ever since. Matter of fact I don't play anymore. I need to get surgery on it.

Hello fellow ACLR victims. I had mine done on August 21st using a hamstring graft. I just hit 6 months PO and have one last P.T. session on Monday then I am clear to start training again. I have been running on a tread mill for a while and have done all the agility excersises with no pain or discomfort. I too am anxious to get back out there but am concerned about getting kicked in the knee more than anything. I have never injured my knee playing football before,o nly been kicked purposely by opposition. I think maybe since I have been out since last April that someone might think I am due for a good wallop! Good luck to you all!

I'm more afraid of that first big cut I make with it then with getting kicked in it.

I am too, but I think that part is more mental? At PT they have me moving side to side between cones, fast, while having a ball thrown at me that I have to catch. It's like a basketball drill I saw the Lakers doing on the news. Have you been jumping side to side off of a step? Feels stable to me and the PT. My muscle tone is still about 80% of non injured leg but has come back rapidly in the last month. I haven't kicked a ball since April so my touch is probably gone.Good luck!

I have just hit the one month mark on my surgery. School has slowed me down since I am there all day twice a week so my recovery is not as fast as expected. My doc said he wants me to reach a two month goal after accessing my progress. I guess I have been doing OK since I started to drive again after two weeks surgery but as the exercises get harder so does the recovery. However, I am worried about returning to play after all the horror stories I hear about people re-tearing their ACLs by rushing back in the game. Then there is the fact that I know of four other players that tore theirs after mine. So much for indoor. The timeline is dependent on the person. If ure muscles recover faster then you should be fine. It also depends on your surgeons skill.

Did u get an opto done? I didn't get the hamstring one, I forget what its called.

Let me know on how ure still doin.

Well it wasn't the first big cut. I was playing goalie, jumped for the ball, tipped it, but came down on my left knee, and my knee went out again, almost exactly 7 months to the day of my first surgery, so I get to go in and have my knee done again.

Totally sucks. I played my first real game recently at exactly 8 months P.O. I am still getting my legs back but the knee feels fine. My hamstring gets sore after but thats about it. Sorry about your re tear dude :(
