Yes, another noob question...can someone tell me what the difference, if any, is between the terms "match", "fixture", and "tie" are? In England.

Match/fixture are one off-games. A tie can be 2-legged (home and away tie) as seen in European Cup, Beer Cup...

Tie was the one throwing me, thanks. Match and fixture are interchangable?

Did anyone else see the thread title and think ZANI had finally decided to ask for help?

A fixture is a date when two teams are scheduled to play. A match is the game itself. A tie is when two teams have to play each other in a knockout competition, it can include replays and second legs.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for. Appreciate it.

A match is something you light a cigarette with, a fixture is something in your house that you don't take when you move like a fireplace or a dado rail, and a tie is what you wear round your neck.

I'm here all week...:o
