The article you linked to talks about how the American media is hyping Manchester United's tour of the US. Most of the US media doesn't know anything about international soccer, so Manchester United is just feeding them press releases and using the US media as a tool.
Don't worry, they are going to get their @ss handed to them by their opponents and go home with 4 losses. Ironically, some of their opponents are playing other games besides their respectives matches against Manchester United, yet I have read no articles about those "tours".

So you don't understand why a very good (but perhaps not great) footballer, with pin-up looks, who plays for England's most high profile team and is married to a world famous ex-pop star gets a lot of publicity?
You might as well ask why Brad Pitt is such a famous star when there are many actors far better than him.

Manchester United rules ADVERTISEMENT and COMMERCIALIZATION and Beckham is a football-pop-star not as those players who bleed, sweat and fight all the time on the game field.
Everybody criticize Real Madrid and blame then as "greedy" because they have money, but Real Madrid is the most modest best club of the world, so, go look the power of money and commertilization of Man Und (As the rest of the english league). They have the most luxury stadium Old Trafford, and we have the 4 star stadium Bernabeu, because still Real Madrid doenīt have a 5 stars stadium, Bernabeu is on the way to be a 5 stars.
Anyway,The english league - clubs charm people because of they luxury visual games and goodlooking players and not a more modest but exiting-warm and full of stars spanishīs league.
They are as USA, they charm with those greatness and fancy (But look behind...). Manchester United is the Yankees of New York of football (Of course they are exemption) and not Real Madrid, as people says. And if Madrid has money, power, greed or whatever, to buy good players, they deserved for what they have won in championships through the history and not in commercialization and great movie looks.
