Marigol arrives

Guess who is expected to be in uniform for the San Diego Sunwaves tonight. After much consternation and contract wrangling, Maribel Dominquez, the prolific Mexican forward, flew to San Diego yesterday and joined the local women's amateur team for what's left of the season. Her first game is tonight at 6:30 at USD's Torero Stadium against former U.S. national team forward Tiffeny Milbrett and the Vancouver Whitecaps. Dominguez, 28, was one of the Sunwaves' first signings for their inaugural season, only for the club to admit a few weeks back that she was still playing in Spain and probably wasn't coming. “Marigol,” as she's known, arrived just in time for the match that likely will decide the Western Conference of the USL's W-League. With three games left, Vancouver (5-1-3) holds a two-point lead over the Sunwaves (5-3-1). When the teams met a month ago in Vancouver, the Whitecaps scored twice in the final six minutes to salvage a 2-2 tie.
