Younis on his way to lyon

Iraqi international and Qatari outfit Al Gharrafa hit man Younis Mahmoud claimed on Monday that French Champions Olympique Lyonnais have made a serious inquiry for his services. The Iraqi Star spoke to “Al Malaeb”, a magazine issued by his country’s FA., “

I met representatives of OL in UAE and started negotiating with me about he possibility of joining their club”.

“ It is the second time that the French team made it clear that they want to sign me”, he added, “ Although the first time the negotiations stalled due to the refusal of Al Gharrafa, a new improved bid will be presented after the end of the Gulf’s Cup”.

The Qatari league top scorer so far this season with 15 goals to his name for Al Gharrafa whom he joined in the start of the season after two years with rivals Al Khor, didn’t reveal the terms of the proposed contract nor the fee

this guy is probably much better than Piquionne and obviously too good for his league. he regularly scores 3 or 4 goals per game. his international stats are pretty impressive as well.

You gotta be kidding.

First off, it's very presumptuous of you to say that so and so is probably much better than so and so when you're making your judgments solely based on what you heard from others and not what you actually saw by yourself (or else you've been closely following the Middle East football scene, which I highly doubt).

Not to mention that this guy plays his club football in Qatar. So he scores 3 to 4 goals per game against nameless clubs in the Qatari league and is a regular feature of his Iraq national team. How big of a deal is that, honestly? Is it that big to make such an assumption? Besides, the reason why his international stats are so impressive is because he's been playing against a bunch of nobodies (FC Apollo, AS Nourese, AS Sorrento, FC Benevento, etc etc).

Honestly after watching those, many of his goals should be credited to his teamates, as he just seems to be in the right place at the right time. Although it does look like he has a deadly shot from distance.

He couldn't cost more than a few million euros, so I think he'd be worth the risk. It also wouldn't hurt OL's market appeal in the Middle East.

They didn't qualify at the world cup, but at the Olympics they finished in 4th place, with Younis on the team.
