Hammers fans I got a question and need your help. What was Clyde Best's squad number when he played for you in the late 60's / Early 70's if you can help it would be greatly appreaciated.

I don't think there were such things as squad numbers back then.
If he was centre forward he wore #9 etc.

Clyde Best was definitely centre-forward when he played in the early 70's, and he would definitely have been #9!

I remember Clyde Best as a winger!!! In the early 70's Sir Geoff Hurst was still our centre forward. Are you sure you not getting Clyde Best mixed up with Ade Coker, who was a centre forward? Our other centre forwards around that time included Pop Robson and Alan Taylor.

Hawaiian what you must remember is we played 2-3-5 as such. Dropping to a 4-4-2 maybe but Hurst from memory was no 10.
I have a lot of old programs and will have a gander tomorrow.

Oops. Sorry, but Geoff nearly always wore no. 10. Johny Byrne was no. 9 and our centre forward. Hurst would have been called an inside left.
This was back in the days of dubbin. :D
I thought Clyde wore no 10 too.

I Googled Clyde Best, and several items confirmed that he was a centre forward; one said; "Cyril Clyde Best, born Bermuda Feb.24,1951,played for WHUFC 1969-1975; appearances 178; goals 47;position centre-forward; all centre forwards at that time wore #9. So there!

Typical. Too classy to be on a 15 or a 25 (my own favourite bus)

Ahh, but that was because the 15 & 25 buses went to rubbish places, whereas the 101 took you in resonable comfort to the George pub in Wanstead and back.:p

George Pub, onto the Cuckfield after a few then up to the Eagle Snaresbrook to finish the early Evening. Then a cab to the room at the top for a drink until 2. Following that a late night Indian and a few bottles of wine. Those were the days.
