He's said he doesn't want it. I've got a feeling that it'll go to an ex-international with no managerial experience - it'll be like David Platt all over again.

Tony Adams anyone?

Tony Adams anyone?

I was thinking more of a Match of the Day pundit.

Shearer?

Shearer?

It wouldn't surprise me at all. It's essentially a part time job and would allow him to wet his teeth in coaching whilst still doing TV work.

I don't understand the mentality behind getting a former pro with no coaching experience to coach one of the age-specific groups. It would seem, for players that are still 'learning their trade', you would want someone experienced in teaching the game, not just playing it.

According to the S*n they're after Pearce. I don't see how he can manage two teams at once when he's struggling to manage one.

I agree that the U-21s should be given an experienced manager, not an ex-pro. Let's start taking youth football seriously like other countries.

If an ex-pro is appointed it has to be top quality ex pro.

The FA has a habit of appointing complete jokers like that butler guy who managed the younger age groups .A numpty who substitutes players who show too many tricks and skills (yes he has done that ,im not joking).
Or that complete pr1ck who managed charlton recently and got sacked after afew weeks.

Taylor did a very good job despite the protests of our resident Leicester fan.

Stuart Pearce has got the job.

It's yet another appointment like David Platt based on name rather than actual ability. This is a poor choice.

Pearce would be a bad choice imo.

The main problem with the job is that very few top managers are going to want to give up their club job for it. In an ideal world the U21 job should be held by the England manager in waiting who takes over the full squad in due course, and I have a feeling that is why the FA want Pearce in.

Any idea why it's Pearce? He hasn't shown an outstanding amount of tactical acumen, from what I've seen, and he lacks coaching experience compared to some other candidates. The only real positive I can see with Pearce is that City have been very good at integrating youngsters into the side, so maybe he has more hands-on experience with young players.
