here's a newbie question: what does ABMOD stand for? it looks like a nickname for richie williams, but i have no idea what it stands for.
Yeah, people use it to refer to Richie Willliams, it's an acronym for "Ankle Biting Midget Of Death," or according to some sources "Ankle Biting Munchkin of Death." Means the mofo is short. And he is. Like a midget. Of death.
Actually, Bigsoccer should have an explanation right there on the front page, for anyone to see. It deserves this recognition.
Thanx so much for asking that question. I was going crazy trying to figure out what that was. I never had the common sense to post a thread to find out what it meant though. LOL One other question to those in the know however. Is this term ABMOD a totally derisive one or is it one of grudging respect?

I think it's a term of derision, but yes, there's jealousy as well. For one US cap, I would gladly endure the animosity of every Bigsoccer poster for eternity. I think there's also the dislike because he's seen as a fair-hared Munchkin...er, boy of Arena. We'll just say if with 3/4 players in the pool WAY better than him who can play his position, he'd better not get capped again or the bitching will commence at an entirely new level of intensity.

LOL. Sorry for bumping this lousy thread again, but that was just too funny. Richie is definitely a Bruce cronie. Has Arena ever started him? I don't think so. He certainly has no business on a USMNT roster. There's just no good reason. The only upside I can think of is that he can be a late sub when a game's outcome is already decided, and he can relieve someone and help us avoid an injury. Not to mention the possibility of injuring one (or more) of the opposition. Not compelling enough reasons. However, I'm sure Bruce will use him again, if for no other reason that to get our collective goat.

An infuriatingly bad play, made even more infuriating by the reassurances from the "Bruce does no wrong" camp not to worry, that Bruce might keep ABMOD around as a practice player but that he'd never use him in an actual match. Right.
