First the news: On Jan. 27-28 the New England Freeze will be hosting a Northeast Team Handball Conference Tournament at UMass-Lowell in the Campus Recreation Center. The first of six games will start Sat. at 12:40 PM and the first of four games will start Sun. at 8:30 AM.

Now a comment: Before this post gets taken down in short order, I just want to say that having seen it both on TV and in person it is a very exciting sport which unfortunately does not have a lot of visibility in the U.S. considering it's the second largest sport in the world (behind soccer), is an Olympic sport (including U.S. Teams) and is currently having its bi-annual Men's world championships (and which the U.S. lost to Greenland in the qualifiers by only 2 goals or the they would have been in it).

Lastly, now that MLS has been around for 10+ years and isn't going anywhere plus that Team Handball is mostly played here during the late-fall early-spring timeframe, it would be nice for people to help support another up and coming sport because Team Handball is where Soccer was 20-30 years ago and it needs the type of support people had when they were trying to bring that sport here.

What the ******** is this doing here? I thought there was a non-soccer related forum.

I played some intramural team handball in college. It's like basketball, but less exciting.

Q: How many sports am I obligated to like because I like pro soccer?

A: According to people in this forum, I am obligated to like and support women's soccer, college soccer, curling, hockey, team handball, and lacross.

Seriously, this is a New England Revolution forum. I post here because they are the closest thing to a real local pro soccer club we have. I am tired of being told I have to support all these other things because the main stream sports media doesn't like them either. You know what? I could care less what they think. I enjoy soccer at the highest level and MLS resembles that is a few ways. The Revs represent the area in the world of soccer and I take pride in that. Those other sports bore me to all hell. Sorry, that's just the way I feel.

Post this kind of stuff in the "NSR" forum, please.

We used to play that all the time in gym, probably the best gym game (other than indoor soccer, which never gets played) I've had. I remember in middle school I was on the 7th grade championship team as our goalie, I didn't let in any goals and we ended up losing when I took the field and someone else took GK:mad: Anyways, that was awesome to play in front of the whole school, would love to play in front of a packed stadium for any sport one day.....anyways, this is pretty cool, I might go watch.

First in response to 'Chowda'. American Soccer fans should be extermely thankful that there is a league and channels devoted to soccer. Because American Team Handball fans are happy when games are broadcast on the internet and have to use web translation to read team websites.

Also, remember if the situations were reversed you'd probably doing the same thing considering how popular both sports are overseas compared to the US.

On a more general note, it was a great tournament with teams from Quebec, New England, various parts of New York and New Jersey. You can find out more at: www.nethc.org

Lastly, there are not to many teams where you just walk on and play, but with the New England Freeze you can do just that. While unfortunately this season is over I'm sure they would be happy to have new players for next season (usually Oct.-Apr.). Visit www.nefreeze.com for contact info.

Hopefully we will remember the long time it has taken to get to where we are today and to now give others who share the burdens of being a popular sport overseas but unknown here a helping hand.
