List your top 5 most diappointing sports moments.
1.2003 ALCS gm 7-took at least a week to get over.
2.2002 MLS Cup defeat. Just being at home made it worse.
3.1990 Stanley Cup finals
4.1991 Wales Conf Final leading Pittsburg 2 games to none. Blowing that and then seeing the fing bastard Ulf Samuelsson cheap shot Neely.
5.1993 NHL playoffs: after seeing the Bruins finish with 2nd best record in the NHL. the go out and get swept by the Sabres in the famous May Day call.

Good Lord ... only 5?
I'll try.
#5. 1994 NCAA Hockey Tournament. UML makes the tournament as the #3 seed in the west. The West Regional is at Michigan State. And guess who they're playing ... yep, MSU. And we got to be the home team. And we beat 'em. But back then, the 1 and 2 seeds got a bye, so we had to play Minnesota the next time and finally lost in double OT. Those Lowell players had nothing left in their feet, but still took it to two OTs.
#4. Sunday's Pats game. I really thought they had this one won.
#3. Magic Johnson's hook shot. God I hate LA.
#2. 2005 MLS Cup. God I hate LA.
#1. 2006 MLS Cup. 71 seconds...

1) Absolutely positively the 12th of November, 2006. Damn, that hurt. Still does.
2) 1986, Game 6, Bob Stanley on the mound for the Sox. Bottom of the 9th, 2 out, 2 strikes.... The @*&^%$#@ announcer jinxes it by saying that the last time the Red Sox had won a World Series, a loaf of bread cost 9 cents...
3) Pando-Freakin-Ramirez, November 2005 in Dallas.
4) Carlos-Freakin-Ruiz, November 2002 in Foxboro. So little was expected, but we had come soooo close, especially since 30 seconds earlier Winston Griffiths missed out on becoming a folk hero in the region by about a quarter of an inch
5) Game 7 of the Red Sox-Yankees series of 2003.

5. UVM loses to Maine in the 2002 America East Semifinals at Matthews Arena. We were sure we were going to the Tournament that year. Little did we know we'd be going in 2003, 2004, and 2005.
4. MLS Cup 2002
3. UVM hockey loses to those cheating fsckers from Colorado College in the 1996 Frozen Four. SOBs scored in overtime by clearly knocking the puck in with a glove.
2. 1986 World Series
1. 2006 MLS Cup

1. The Chi Sox sweeping the Astros in 05:(
2. Back to back MLS Cup overtime defeats
3. When the Oilers relocated to Tennessee, imagine a suicidal 7 year old :(
4. 2002 MLS Cup, my first season with the team resulted in heartbreak lol
5. The Houston Texans in general:rolleyes:
*Honorable mention for the death of Larry Dierker, that was a sad day in Astros-land
Colonel Lingus

5. USA 1-2 Iran. France '98. To this day, I have no idea how we lost this game.
4. Game 7, 2003 ALCS. When Grady left him in, I called my brothers in Florida to tell them Grady just lost us the World Series. The line was busy. They were trying to call me to say the same thing. It was THAT obvious to everyone except for Grady.
3. 2007 AFC Championship Game - So, was I the only one screaming at the TV, "Who the f*&% are Eric Alexander and Rashad Baker, and why do we have them covering Dallas Clark?" When Indy scored to cut the lead to 21-13, I knew it wouldn't end well.
2. 2006 MLS Cup Final. I can't even talk about this game rationally.
1. Game 6, 1986 World Series. Sorry, nothing even close.
Honorable Mention: About a thousand DePaul basketball games that I don't have the time to recap.
1.Revs lose 2006 MLS Cup
2.Sox 1986 Game 6 Buckner!
3.Sox 1975 Game 7
4.Revs lose 2005 MLS Cup
5.Celts – Lakers 1985, Game 6. Yea, that damn Magic hook
Honorable Mention: Revs lose 2002 MLS Cup, Revs lose to DC on PK’s in 2004 ECF.
Sad...this thread is just TOO easy to fill up!

1. USA 0-3 Czech Republic. Not only did it decimate the World Cup hype I had been experiencing for the 7-8 months before the game, but the U.S. had to lose in horrible fashion.
2. October 15, 2005. Michigan 27-25 Penn State. Leading on the final drive, where a Michigan receiver steps outs of bounds when he catches the ball, and Lloyd Carr gets 5 seconds back on the clock for whining like a baby, and Penn State ends up 0:01 away from a perfect season after two craptastic seasons.
3. 2003 ALCS Game 7. Enough said.
4. March 26, 1997- Whalers announce they are leaving Hartford.
5. Sept. 28, 2002 Iowa 42-35 Penn State. First Penn State game as a student, horrible officiating which led to an OT loss. Big letdown, even bigger letdown was that night, at a party, I was about to hook up with a girl when her boyfriend showed up.

4. MLS Cup 2005...thought it couldn't hurt more to see the Revs lose...AND THEN...
3. MLS Cup 2006...we almost had it
2. January 26, 1997, Patriots lost the Super Bowl to Green Bay...on my birthday
1. April 13, 1997, attended the Hartford Whalers last game. Saddest sports day of my life...haven't followed hockey since.

5. 1986 - Red Sox are one strike away from winning the World Series, grounder to Billy Buckner. I goes through his legs and the Mets end up winning in seven games.
t-4. Carlos Ruiz scores in overtime to beat the Revs in the MLS Cup finals AND in Foxboro
t-4. Revs lose AGAIN to LA
t-4. Revs ONCE AGAIN dont score in regular time and then after a goal in extra time. the defense completely falls asleep and gives up a goal immediatly after. Revs lose in pks
3. AC Milan are beating Liverpool FC 3-0 at halftime. Liverpool makes tactical changes while the sorry excuse for a manager Ancelotti does nothing. Then, he takes out Crespo, who had been playing unbelievably. Liverpool tie it 3-3. AC Milan's attack can't score another goal because of the sub. Liverpool win in penalties
2. 2004 - Boca Juniors lose the finals of the Copa Libertadores to Once Caldas in penalty kicks. The year AFTER, they implrement the away goal rule. If they had implemented it in 2004, Boca Juniors would ahve won 1-0 on away goals.
1. 2006 - Boca Juniors lose the last three games of the season to lose title and their chance to win their first ever three-peat

5. 2003 ALCS. I got too busy to follow the Sox after that year (perfect timing, I know), so the win a year later didn't even feel that redemptive.
4. 2005 MLS Cup. That game was such a letdown after such a great season.
3. 2006 MLS Cup. Hurt more than the previous year because of those 71 seconds.
2. 2003 WUSA semis, Boston loses to Washington on PKs (I hate DC...), and Maren chokes on hers to end her professional career. If it weren't for the WWC a few months later, it would have felt almost like a Zidane moment (a completely unfitting and horrible end to a spectacular career) It still makes me wince to think about it. It's made worse by....
1. WUSA folding in '03. Not that I didn't see it coming, but coming off such a great season, and such a horrible playoff loss, to lose even the small consolation of "there's always next year" is particularly painful.

5. 1997 SuperBowl vs. Packers. I know we weren't even supposed to be there, but it hurt to watch that game.
4. 2006, USA vs. Ghana. Ashamed at first, just sad after that.
3. 2006 MLS Cup. We had the attention of so many non-fans where I watched the game when the two dozen of us who were paying attention erupted. This one isn't number one only because I saw the response coming. I told people before it happened, "this is where we're liable to get complacent." Self-fulfilling prophecy or not, that really hurt.
2. 1996, final game of MLS season. Revs v. Crew. Winner goes to playoffs, loser goes home. Crew win, 1-0, on a McBride goal. This is the reason that no matter how much they suck, I will always hate the Crew.
1. 2003, ALCS. I'm not going to relive it.

It's hard ... I'm gonna cop out and try to do one per sport.
Red Sox>
2003 American League Championship Series Game 7, period.
Patriots>
Sunday. I'm starting to get over it now, though ;)
Bruins>
Everything?
But seriously, losing to Montreal about 5 years ago when we were the #1 seed. Total choke job.
Revs>
MLS Cup '06 hurts the most just because we actually scored and were so close.
Liverpool>
Hmm.. I have horrible memories of getting $#@t on by Arsenal 3-0 this year, probably because it was the same day as MLS Cup..just a horrible day
Team USA>
Losing to Germany on a handball in '02
BC football>
Sh!tting the bed against Syracuse when a win over the pathetic Orange would have gotten us into the Fiesta Bowl
BC basketball>
Losing to Villanova in the sweet 16 after holding something like a 21-6 lead.
BC hockey>
In 2000, losing to Michigan in the national title game @ the FleetCenter
I just remembered a HUGE game that should be somewhere on my list. The 1972 US v USSR olympic basketball final. CCCP cheats, and takes 3 opportunities to score the winning basket. OMG, I was pissed for WEEKS.

I just remembered a HUGE game that should be somewhere on my list. The 1972 US v USSR olympic basketball final. CCCP cheats, and takes 3 opportunities to score the winning basket. OMG, I was pissed for WEEKS.Yeah, I'm old enouigh to remember that... They played the final 2 seconds, where those cheatin' commies threw up a hail mary and missed, but then for some reason the East German ref gave them a do-over. This time, they connected on the long pass and scored, but it took something like 3.5 seconds to do it...
Oh well, at least the same year we beat them in hockey with Paul Henderson scoring the winner with a couple of seconds left. I suppose that is one I should be talking about in the other thread...

5. Notre Dame - USC 2005 "The Bush Push" (Still one of the best football game I've ever seen.)
4. 2006 Champions League Final Barcelona 2 Arsenal 1
Ah a red card for Lehmann, really? Thats siiiiiiiiiiick.
3. The decline of the NBA and the Boston Celtics in my lifetime.
2. 2006 MLS Cup - Actually Being there scoring a goal...then blowing it so quickly...then completely classless Houston fans who I couldn't stand. That was pretty bad.
1. 2003 American League Championship Series Game 7. Aaron Boone's walkoff homerun off Tim Wakefield. I think that was probably the worst day/moment of my life. I am not joking when I say that. I think during that entire game I experienced every emotional state possible. Nothing will ever surpass that ever. It was awful. I was an emotional mess for a week and it to this day even though we won it still stings.
