MADRID (AFP) - England captain David Beckham will not be going to Real Madrid under any circumstances, according to a Real Madrid statement.

The European champions took the unusual step to try and stop rumours that Manchester United's inspiration freekick specialist would be moving to the Bernabeu stadium.

The Madrid statement read: "Because of information in various sections of the press on the existence of Real Madrid interest to sign David Beckham, the club would like to make clear:

"1. There is no contact between Real Madrid and Manchester United on this subject.

"2. There has been no direct or indirect contact between Real Madrid and Beckham.

"3. Contrary to the rumours on this matter, Real has no intention of negotiating the signing of Beckham.

"4. That, despite the club rule not to use official channels to deny rumours, this statement was sent out to finally put an end to the uncertainty created by certain sources in linking Beckham to Real Madrid.

"5. In spite of the rumours, there is an unconditional, friendly relationship between the two clubs and respect for Beckham."

So, it appears it may have been pre-match mind games after all?

Cue the "Becks isn't good enough for Real anyways" trolls...

Good. Now maybe we can focus on bringing the title back to Old Trafford, rather than talking about this crap.

Then again, who's to say someone won't start up the rumor again...

"Real Madrid president Florentino Perez dismissed the idea of the England captain joining his team, "Not now, not ever,'' he said.

They said the same thing about Ronaldo in July 2002. He joined them in August.

God, this is getting tiresome and it's not even Summer!!! :)

Real Madrid have hit back at claims in the English press
that their denial of interest in David Beckham was identical
to that made last year about Ronaldo, 22 days before signing
him.

"We made a very clear point to bring an end to this matter.
It is not true that this controversy is similar to that
which existed in the months leading up to the signings of
Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane. This is the first time the club
have used an official channel to issue an emphatic denial,"

Did they release an official statement denying a Ronaldo transfer like they did for Beckham?

I'm waiting for them to say there is no chance that Ronaldinho will be coming to RM so that we know he's on his way. :)

Spokesman: Its ridiculous....we have no interest with david beckham and we will never under any circums....oh wait we just signed him....wait hold on...like i was saying, we never under any circumstances would consider not buying him from manchester united. Welcome, David.

reporter: but u just said you had no interest in him

spokesman: I said we had no interest with david beckham and his people and his fame and his wife and blue orange rocket in the stars wind cold.

reporter: but that was statement that made no sense...

spokeman: be quiet or we will buy your family

United website, BBC, ITV and Sky all confirm the transfer. Is the AFP source reliable?
