I hate every All Star game that exsits including MLS. I believe they shoudl all be banned from ever being played. Name All star teams after the season gibe the players the bonus, but dont play them I say.

Shame then, that American tradition dictates otherwise. NFL, sure, no point to it in a 16-game season. NBA, used to be important like the Slam-Dunk competition and the Olympics, but now it's pointless. MLS, well, it seems to set the newswires afire every time we beat a European opponent. Justly or unjustly, not my call.

MLB, however, has some meaning to it now that they've added the rule about WS home field advantage. It meant something from its inception through the 70s or 80s when the AL and NL never faced each other except in the World Series. From the late 80s through interleague's inception, the era of the sluggers, it lost some meaning because of the strike's effect. But the tie in Milwaukee a few years ago has made the All-Star game significant again. Unlike other sports, there is an incentive to winning the All-Star game in baseball.

I think you got it half right. The MLB all-star game was interesting when it was a chance to see the players in the "other" league. Giving world Series home field advantage to the winning league doesn't really juice it up for me.

I actually the MLS vs. the World format works very well for the league.

I thought it wouldn't matter since he would be out of contract and the window only applies to those under contract.
As did I, but there was a recent article saying the change in the American transfer window this year allows him to come as soon as his contract expires.

So he would be able to come in July.

Yep, but this news of the window changing came after my initial post.

If we had a pool for the release of the schedule, I'd put my money on Feb 7 for the schedule being released. Then they could talk about it during the US/Mexico game

Schdule early this week?

COMING SOON NEAR YOU: A league source has confirmed that MLS schedule makers worked overtime to provide every chance possible that David Beckham and the Galaxy will visit each league market at least once.

In some cases, the Galaxy visit might not be part of regular season play, but part of the new SuperLiga tournament.

It's all quite tricky, of course, and league officials certainly can't make any guarantees. Beckham could always miss time due to injury. And league officials remain unsure of the date Brand Beckham will splash down in MLS waters.

The extra tinkering didn't cause any delays. The schedule is set to come out early next week, which will be almost exactly the same date it was released last year.
