How do you know that's his debut? I'm just seeing some wild guesses there.

His contract is up at RM on 6/30. That'd be the earlist he could play under current contracts. That's why everyone mentions August, because he would need time off, time to adapt, etc...

Read the post more carefully. I'm just pointing out the logistical improbabilty of him playing in every MLS venue unless he's released earlier.

Back a long, long time ago when Alexi Lalas was a "star" these kinds of questions came up. I recall some drooling, slack-jawed yokels in Cow-lumbus, Kansas, or some other God-forsaken outpost moaning that the first time Lalas was sposta play, he was off at the 'limpics helping the US lose to someone else's U-23s. For his second visit he had gotten a red card for throwing a ball at a cameraman in the previous game. The League intervened (you don't say!) and let him "appeal" the suspension, so he could play in front of said slack-jawed yokels. He did, the league upheld the red and he missed the next home game, which was fine for all involved.

It goes without saying that no MLS ref will have the 'nads to show Mr. Posh so much as a yellow, unless he does something really stupid like take a swing at Joey Franchino for calling him an "English poofta," so that scenario won't happen again.

Just to clarify, I didn't say it was Becks debut, I asked whether the national tv audience in August would mean it would be his debut?

I would suspect LA will have more home games towards the end of the season.

I think the capacity of Gillette could play a factor, especially early in the Beckham era when the buzz is still at it's peak.

Plus Becks has endorsements with Gillette.

With the shorter MLS schedule this year, there is no guarantee that we would play LA at home anyway, correct?

What is the new break down for the schedule?

2006:
4 x 5 Eastern Conf teams = 20
2 x 6 Western Conf teams = 12
TOTAL = 32

2007:
3 x 6 EC teams = 18 (adding TOR)
2 x 6 WC teams = 12
TOTAL = 30

So, LA still has to come here at some point in 2007.

So, we could get lucky and get Toronto away twice(2 ROAD TRIPS!) or we could get screwed and get DCU and/or ChiFi away twice.....

We'll see....sometime in early April when the schedule comes out:rolleyes:

I was just making fun of the NHL for moving their All Star game to a Wednesday night, and now I find out MLS is moving theirs to ESPN2 on a Thursday night (July 19th, 2007).

I thought it was man-law that All Star games are played on weekends? :)

I thought they were mentioning August because that is when the MLS transfer window opens?

I thought it wouldn't matter since he would be out of contract and the window only applies to those under contract.

No, but there probably will be a home game on Thursday July 26th with plenty of concert rigging in the south end zone... :o

At least MLS's All star game will be on basic cable.

According to the Sports Business Daily, the NHL All-Star game on Wednesday night drew a 0.7 rating and was seen in just over 474,000 households. The ratings for the game were down 76% from the 2004 NHL All-Star game on ABC, which was seen in 1,985,000 households.

MLS gets better.

Hockey is dead.

The NHL should have contracted at least 2, maybe even 4 teams during the lockout. Hockey has hit it's peak in their country.

And IMO, Gary Bettman should not have kept his job after the first lockout in 1994, nether less getting a paycheck from the NHL now.
