the 9/20 roadtrip to Giant's Stadium didn't exactly draw a big crowd, and the weather was windy, but somewhat seasonable, and on a Wednesday...

Didn't they announce something like 8k for that one?

Isn't attendence in all sports tabulated by tickets sold, not tickets actually collected.

Probably.
I posted the first pic in one of the many MLS attendance threads that week. Someone took the time to count how many people were there; he counted something like 700, give or take a 100.

I know DC's looking to host the Gals I believe August 9th, a Thursday night national TV game.
I hate to say it, but I'll be watching ... the DC fans'll bring it for that one.

Could this be Beckham's debut?

From Sean's article listed in the 1/23 news thread about the MLS Schedule:
We will put it out I would guess within the next two weeks [January 21st-February 3rd].”

So DC gets MLS Cup, the Becks debut, Superliga, and a better draft pick than us. If we don't host Beckham, we seriously need an advocate for the Revs to replace Sunil Gulati on all those MLS decision making committees. A Becks game this year, while there's still hype, is money in the bank for Kraft. Losing that opportunity has to force Papa Kraft to see Sunil is a detriment, if Bob even cares.

With all the hype Becks has made, his big debut may take place on a baseball diamond. Just the image we want to send to the world about MLS.
Unlike DC or NY, the same family/corporate structure that owns the Revs owns and manages Gillette, so any cash generated from concessions, parking, etc would go to an original MLS owner, not to the DC government.
Nice.

I'm sure they'll put on a show and the place will be rockin'. However, it took someone to stand up and advocate for DC to get that game, superliga, etc... Do we have the same situation with the Revs? I'm doubtful.

I'm more than doubtful, I'm positive we don't.
If we play LA before Mr. Posh arrives the local sports media will just have a field day. Personally I'll find it funny, because you know there will be people assuming he'll be there and they'll turn out in their Man U or Madrid kits and be disappointed but the overall message will be the Revs aren't "big time." Ya know?

Are we "big time"? I'm pretty sure it's evident that we aren't.
Not this this is the end-all be-all of topics, but a crowd of around 30,000 paying customers for a Becks game, plus the supposed money from the Dempsey deal would help make the books look much better if the Revs ever want to build a SSS. They won't have to make outrageous claims that attendance will soar while ticket prices go way up to balance the books like the RSL people are doing.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Revolution have been selling season ticket packages for 2007, telling them to get their tickets now to "see David Beckham," even when there's no assurance he'll be with the Galaxy when they have their match against the Revs at Foxboro...
... then again, maybe the League's delayed the schedule as they're trying to find some way to have LA have enough away games at the end of the season to play in places like New England.
Then again, the Revs did tell season ticket holders last year that free parking would be a benefit of buying season tickets.

...because there are eleven other teams telling their fans the exact same story.
I'm gonna guess that no, the August 9 game won't be Beckham's debut for LA (either he'll arrive before then or he will be held until the transfer window opens 8/15) and that his debut will be an LA home date.

I fully expect the Gals to spend a lot of the end of their season on the road, especially on the east coast.

My ticket rep has made no assertions. In fact he said he's waiting along with everyone else in the office to see the schedule before they mention Beckham...
As for sending LA away for the second half of the season....If I'm a Gals season ticket holder and I'm paying more for my ticket this year than last to see one of 4 teams that didn't make the playoffs....And Beckham spends his first year with the Gals on the road....I'd be pissed!

With the shorter MLS schedule this year, there is no guarantee that we would play LA at home anyway, correct?
What is the new break down for the schedule?

Even if Beckham comes ready to play on 7/1, they couldn't fit 12 away games and enough home games in because of Superliga. The two places I thought they could skip was KC because of the very small confines and DC because they got Superliga and MLS Cup. As it turns out, DC's getting his debut, so there you go.
He has to be released early or we probably won't see him. They'll probably site fieldturf and gridirons as reasons, but he'll play in NY. Not a word from our FO will be uttered.

We don't know that the August 9th game will be his debut. Actually I'd be absolutely shocked if his debut isn't a home game for the Gals.

How do you know that's his debut? I'm just seeing some wild guesses there.
If our home date against LA occurs prior to Beckham's first game with the team, I will not feel in the least bit slighted, cheated, ripped-off, or otherwise shortchanged by the Revolution or MLS. My season ticket no more guarantees me a chance to see Beckham than it does a chance to see Kevin Hartman. I'm not there to see the away team.
