View Full Version : Dong Joins First Team!

Dong has completed his 2 and a half year term at Royal Antwerp and today has joined the first team to fight for his place. I for one think he deserves a medal for commitment and patience and deserves a fair chance to shine at United.
The Games I have seen him play in ( 2 games in US preseason) he started on the right flank (Ronaldo's favourite position), surely if he is to make it into the first team he needs to be more versatile. Does anyone know if he has been tried in any other positions?

Any rumors about where he'll be sent on loan?

Playing in United reserves is not going to aid his development too much, but United might feel that after waiting at Antwerp for so long he needs to feel a part of United.
I doubt he'll see more than 5 minutes of first team action in the rest of the season, but training with the first team squad would be good for his confidence.

Another example of the type of player we'll move for from now on. In perfect keeping with the modern gaeme this kid is quicksilver and strong - first and foremost.
He's got talent, which helps. He stands a better chance of making it here than a Richardson.
I doubt he'll be kept here. A loan to the Colaship will most likely be his first port of call...unless he is absolutely amazing in training to the extent we keep him to actually use him in our 1st squad.

I'd be surprised if he's with the team for the remainder of the year. In this race, I can't see Fergie giving him games.

Yep. The only way he'd get games is if we were still in the Carling Cup, which we ain't, so there ya go.

I'd imagine he'll only play in the reserves for the rest of the season. He needs to get acclimatised to English football first & foremost. There's always next season for him to go out on loan.

Dong would be a great player to have on the bench in the CL.
He's got the pace to change a game and he's got the skill to play RW and CF. He probably won't be kept because of our wealth up front right now, but I think since he's here its time to move Richardson out.

I agree that I would put him on in front of Richardson, but I would hope that I never had to play either in the CL. Plus, I don't expect that Dong has the nous to be effective in the CL at this time.

Well the good thing about Dong, if he were to go out on loan is that, we wont have to be picky to which club we choose (if any want him) in regards to the style of play. Its different with Rossi.
Dong could fit in with most styles in the EPL. Watfords long ball and bash system could work in good and bad ways. He would definately have to work hard, and his fitness levels may improve, and of course the experience. On the other hand, we dont want him to get used to that style of play. He may also get burnt out playing as the lone forward in which he may do most times if he did go there. He may not be used to it just yet, as he is still young.
Charlton might need him if they sell Darren Bent. The list goes on...

That's the main concern, not enough PT. But tagging along the first team for a while is good for him though, after such a long time in a second tier team in a second tier league.

He does have a good killer instinct. Not sure how well he communicates with teammates and coach though. Sometimes he can be rather hot-headed.
