From Sky Sports (http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=471196&CPID=583&clid=3719&lid=4169&title=No+fears+for+Kubica&channel=Formula+One).
A statement from the Hospital du Sacre-Coeur in Montreal, where BMW Sauber pilot Robert Kubica has been admitted, has confirmed that the Pole is not in any serious danger following his terrifying accident in Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix.
The statement read: "Mr Kubica has undergone all the necessary medical examinations and we don't foresee any further treatment will be required following the accident. He is suffering from a light trauma to his brain as well as a sprain on his left ankle.
It looks like F1, and I am sure all open wheel formula style cars, will have to look at a better way of inserting the "horseshoe" padding around the drivers helmet. As you could see as Kubica was rolling across the track for his second impact into the concrete walls that padding was missing. His helmet was slamming from side to side inside the cockpit. I am sure that has something to do with his light trama to his brain.
The HANS device is not designed to assist in that kind of movement. The HANS did do its job on the first and second major impact with the barriers where the car went in nose first.
Beyond the accident, it was the first race I kind of enjoyed this season. Though yet another race without a pass for the lead, passes were shown deeper in the field including Super Aguri passing Alonso in the final laps. :D

At the same time, though, there is much to be said about the safety of the cockpit in general. That looked like a near head-on collision with the wall at near top speed. Really, only an ankle sprain?

Fox2 is Detroit totally effed up my coverage of the race by going to it late due to the Tigers/Mets game over. I didn't set my DVR to record over because F1 has never run late for me. I missed the last 15 laps or so, but did get to see that nasty crash.
This was the most entertaining race so far this season, even though I was half asleep watching due to being exausted.
Alonso's performance really bummed me out. He's getting left in the dust my Hamilton. He's got to be feeling the pressure right now.

And light trauma to his brain. But I do agree, safety has greatly improved. Just suggesting a minor tweak to improve safety a bit more.

That accident was horrifying.
I got a bad feeling after they came back from the commercial break and didn't show the medical team working, didn't show the wreckage being cleaned up or even really talk about Kubica. They must have been waiting for word on his condition but for awhile there I was thinking the worst. Plus that accident looked too much like the fatal crash of CART driver Greg Moore.
Thank heavens Kubica seems to be ok.

Anyone going to Indy this weekend for the USGP? My son and I will be there for Saturday's qualifying and Sunday's race. We're sitting in J. (Map here. (http://www.usgpindy.com/modules/images/trackmap/usgp05-map-lrg.jpg))

This was bound to happen. It's obvious Hamilton has been crowned the poster child for F1. Fernando needs to either put him in his place, or move aside. I don't think he'll do the latter.

I can't wait. I fly out to Indy tomorrow afternoon. Best 3 days of the year coming up.
Just got a text from my sources in Indy who tell me they saw Trulli and Kubica out on the town. As well as Marco and Franchetti who are back in Indy just to take in the F1 vibe. God I love this shit.

Is anyone else worried this could be the last GP at Indy?

At times I also wonder if Indy deserves it. We shall see I guess.

I can't begin to tell you all how much I love that Fox picked up the broadcast rights for the Canadian and US GP on days the Tigers just happen to be player before them. I'm still waiting for the Tigers game to end, and they're on the road with the lead which will add another 20 minutes to the game. Thanks, Fox.

F1 needs a US GP.
In fact, manufacturers have been pushing for 2 US GPs, as the US market is the most important market for Ferrari, Mercedes, BMW, Toyota and Honda.

I totally agree, but did you notice the crowd today? Horrible (IMO)
But no matter the crowd, there will be a USGP. Perhaps there will be a one year miss if things don't get sorted out soon, but it will be back. Of course, I hope either Indy gets redesigned, or the new track allows for more passing. Man was the race borning (I missed the start).

I feel asleep towards the end. Fortunately Fox2 Detroit aired the entirety of the race delayed, of course. I couldn't keep my eyes open due to having a messed up sleep schedule from working nights, having a soccer game this morning, and being in the pool with my kids half of the afternoon. I knew I wasn't going to miss anything, anyway. Alonso has got to be pulling his hair out. Two weeks in a row now that he has looked a bit shakey. If not for that fraction of an error on lap 47 or 48, he might have pulled it off. I thought he had the better strategy. But damn, I'm starting to hate Hamilton by default. And it's not because of anything he's personally doing. I couldn't stand Jordan, and that had nothing to do with him being in Chicago. I just can't stand media annoited darlings in any sport.

Lewis Hamilton has done a top 10 tunes for MTV Base, I liked his style when he mentioned about all the Hip-Hop and RnB stars with their pimped up motors, he just pointed at his McLaren and said "How about this for bling? This car is hand made for me, you can't get better than that!"
Good luck to the guy, he seems like a pretty chilled out person.

I just landed an hour ago from our trip to the USGP. Enjoyed the race, but it was hotter than hell sitting in the sun at turn 1. I was able to talk briefly to Peter Windsor at the Indy airport. Nice guy.
Television doesn't do the USGP justice -- or any F1 race for that matter. IMS seats 257,000. There were about 125,000 at Sunday's race. Half full but still a crap load of people. It's one of F1's best attended race of the season. It's largely an international crowd anyway. According to some local people I talked with, the race is poorly marketed in the Indianapolis area and therefore doesn't get a lot of local support.
We're now in the middle of the annual Tony George vs. Bernie Ecclestone pissing contest. I think that there's a 70% chance that the USGP will return to Indy, but my feelings wouldn't be hurt if it didn't. I'd attend Montreal instead.
