Some future milestones:

6000: 31% for soccer
6100: soccer moves closer to NASCAR than the NFL
6200: NASCAR falls below 40%
6600: Soccer moves ahead of NASCAR--Maximum annoyance level for author, DeFord, etc.

I have to delete cookies each time to revote... I tried opening 20 windows and then voting in each window, but when the poll updates it doesn't reflect what I voted. Any ideas?

NASCAR reduced to 41%
soccer up to 31%

Try waiting a bit before refreshing, either that or opening a new window and see...

Survey results tallied every 60 seconds.

6350: NASCAR drops to 39%
6700: Soccer passes NASCAR

I think I'm going blind.

NASCAR is not a sport. This is the one thing on which I can agree with Jim Rome.

My wife said, "Car racing is only fun for the driver." Well put, I think.

I sometimes bash other sports (and ersatz sports) when comparing them to soccer. I realize that's not necessarily the way to win over non-fans. But in my defense, I often bash them outside of soccer comparisons as well.

All sports are equal, but some sports are more equal than others.

BTW, I put in my vote. Like it's going to convince anyone to become a soccer fan.

This could backfire. If soccer wins this poll it could shake up MLB. The MLB players union and MLB owners will unite and then call off the strike/lockout. A common enemy can bring two enemies together.

Yeah, we better be careful. A recent USA Today poll resulted in a Klan/Aryan Militia church burning in Alabama.

This is fun. I hope they won't get suspicious about this.

There--that's enough for me tonight. We're getting pretty close though--39% for NASCAR, 35% for soccer, with 6380 votes counted.

By 6700 votes, soccer will have passed NASCAR in total votes. The percentages as that time might still be tied though, so we may have to push it up to 6750-6780.

So, 400 more votes are needed at the most, 300 at the least.

Here's the plan--soccer moves ahead, and we email the guy who wrote the article notifying him of this. In fact, ten of us email him separately. This might keep him from writing so crudely about soccer in the future, and another small battle will have been won. Hell, we could even email DeFord--that is, if he knows what email is and isn't too busy recovering from mummblypeg stab wounds.

A job well done. We should be able to complete the mission tommorow.

I wonder how many people other than us really check on this poll. I'm sure most people, meaning other than ballot stuffers, just give the article a read and then move on with their lives.

I'm also sure most rational people don't take the poll results seriously. Yet these BS posters do...

Please don't ruin the fun.

Hmmmm. Soccer had 19% when there 5100 total votes, and it now has 35% with 6400 total votes. That means soccer has roughly gotten 98% of the votes over this period. Nope, nothing suspicious here. :D

Soccerholic, you busy voting? It seems like every time I vote, it registers two - so I can't be the only one.

I wish that damn picture of the pit crew didn't take so long to load - I'd be able to vote twice as fast!

Also, anyone notice how they don't even have soccer listed as a sport up in the left-hand corner of the page? I guess we fall under "other sports". We'll show them who's an "other" sport. You insult soccer, you get a community full of irate soccer geeks skewing your poll results - and that's a promise!
