....................Beckham thread by now, everybody else has got one.
I've done a taste test and asked a non-footy mate if he'd heard of the LA Galaxy, "Isn't that who Beckham signed for?" mind you he was less than impressed when I told him Saints would beat them, he also said he'd heard the Yanks were gettin quite good at football, "didn't they do well in one of the World Cups?" I told him they were still shit and it was a fluke, a one of.
Anyway, to go from England captain and Real Madrid Galactico to a playing for a team called Galaxy must be a bit of a shitter for Becks and I reckon the 100 caps is pretty much out of the question now, anyway, good luck to him I say.

So you're saying if you were him you would turn down $250,000,000, not let any American teen girls cry over you?
If you were him you'd rather stay at Madrid and compete against Brazilians for a starting place than get a guaranteed place in LA?

He got a great deal, £128,000,000 5 year contract to live in Hollywood.
He's footballing carear is basicly over, he'll never play for England again so he probably decided to go to America now and not when he's too old.
his preformances over the last few years have been poor, though he should do well over there.

I doubt that Beckham's career is over. He still has a couple of years of good service for England and probably 5 more for a club. He has good leadership skills and credit to him, he has maintained his fitness.
The only problem is separating the brand from the footballer! If he were less 'hollywood' and more ...say ...like Henrik Larsson, then we could still see the best of him.
He wont go down in history as one of the best footballers in the world but he will certainly go as a shrewd footballer who has made most out of his sport and Galaxy have five years to milk that cash cow!

We could have done with those couple of years recently instead of the mediocre performances he churned out.

That's where he blew it all right.
He is king of the chavs though.
one of the funny things is that if he is going to be a true A lister, he needs an actual A list biatch - not some washed up ex girl band member

I’ve long suspected Posh may be half-woman, half-duck. Or maybe ostrich. I’m not a zoologist.
Nicole Kidman would, for me, be a big step up. A fine woman. But even better, why not aussie sex midget Kylie?
Golden pants and golden balls, just imagine the family crest.

The only problem is that Calderon got his facts wrong. He had a contract offer from Milan and Inter were also seriously interested so to say no-one wanted him sounds like sour grapes. His main complaint seems to be that Beckham was obviously talking to MLS long before January (when he was officially allowed to talk to any party) yet Calderon himself happily talks about signing under contract players as part of his election drives.

good point about calderon.
The same clown who kicked up a stink about chelseas transfer deals .The man who wanted rules to stop teams buying up talent (well non g14 teams).
He then goes out and raids south america for 3 of the continents best young players (hugain ,gago and that young brazilian full back).
sour grapes alright.

He got offered a ton of money and couldn't turn it down. Wasn't getting a lot of playing time as of late for Real Madrid. Can you blame him for making the move? He didn't want to play in England for any other team. He was probably thinking that, at his age, this would be the last "Big" payday, so why not take it?
