This thread is for the discussion of the finalists in the Mdnight Riders scarf competition. I'll post the designs I created which made the final round and open discussion on them. If the designers of the other three scarves want to post and talk about theirs, please do.

EDIT: I'm battling malware that's diguised itself as vital system processes. I'll get the pictures up soon...

Patience grasshopper. I restore my system settings to last week and the trouble is gone. You'll see it in a moment...

This is my Midnight Riders Design.

I figured if we had a midnight riders scarf, it should be all-out. That way, it would fit that theme for reorders while other scarf themes would be made in subsequest years. There's also a lot of new Riders since the last one was made, so there would be demand. If

I actually stumbled across this design and spent only a fraction of the time on it as with other designs that I couldn't get to work. The background horizontal bar comes from a Lyon scarf. I really like the simplicity. The off-centered crest on the front is a departure from the mostly symetrical designs I've seen.

The one thing I don't like is the tail on the D's. It's the same font as the crest, but the crest has the tails clipped off. The reason why I didn't want to try and modify it is there is a slight black shadow on the lettering which makes it stand out. It would have been a mess to clip the tails off and make the shadow right.

The back bar pattern is just an inverse of a few of the bar patterns on other designs. However, the blue is about 125% the size of the red.

No offense, but I didn't vote for that one. I didn't like the bar, a little too "adidas" for me.

It is a quality design, and it reflects your commitment as a Revolution supporter. Repped.

You should rep all the designers. Everyone did a stand out job and I wish we could make them all.

I love that design Jim, I really want the Riders logo on the scarf this year.

I was actually disappointed, I wanted Evan's scarf with the states on the back to make it through.

It was very close.

I'm still fighting a computer worm that shuts the computer off whenever I log on. I'll get that other scarf up when I get this fixed.

...not to be a jerk, but I have no idea what you are talking about.

Yea, I'm kinda loss. If he edited the D's, the shadow should have been edited as well.

This are my two designs that advanced to the next round. Overall they're pretty consistent with one another, featuring The Midnight Riders shield at both ends of the first side, featuring a shadow relief of soccer supporters celebrating/cheering in the background, but the fonts and message on these sides being different. On the top design the font is the same as the one used on the scarf produced last year, which is a bit more contemporary that some of the other fonts featured. As for "We are Freakin' Sweet?" Well, that was a design recommendation I incorporated upon request, a popular quote from The Family Guy television show.

I've always wanted to do a traditional bar scarf for the Revolution, but realized that a stand alone scarf like this probably wouldn't get voted upon or produced. That being understood, I felt that - if I could incorporate it as one side of another design - I could perhaps get my wish, and in a sense, give fans two scarves for the price of one. The two bar designs are ever so slightly different in terms of the number of bars and their widths.

Finally, it should be understood that I plan to make the fringe on each scarf all white. The reason for this is simple, the contrast will help the colors "pop" more, and we've already done red, white, and blue fringe on all of our scarves to this point. All white might not work for some of the other designs featured, each of which I'm really impressed with.

So just FYI, and thanks to everyone who voted!

Evan

No no. In the MR crest, it's the exact same font, but the D's don't have that little tail on them. In the scarf, I would have had to manually modify both the tails and the shadow next to the D's to make the D's look like the ones in the crest and still have the shadow effect. The little tails irk me a little, that's all.

Maybe there was a way to accomplish what I wanted in Paint Shop Pro, but I couldn't figure it out.

BTW, I think I found the problem with my computer. It only too ten hours last night. It hit just when I posted this thread and it kept shutting the system off. I'll get a description of the Fort scarf up after the Man U game.

But if you edit the D and erase part of the tail on the D the same should happen to the shadow, unless you are making a shadow by yourself and not utilizing the shadow option.

I'll say this too ... if we wind up with a vote where the #1 is a Riders scarf and #2 is a New England scarf (or vice-versa) and it's close ... I wouldn't mind the Riders board doing two scarves this year.

Something to think about.

Last time I checked - a contest for a design for the 2007 scarf with the winner having their scarf made and sold means one scarf and one scarf only.

I agree with Jon on this: one winning design, one scarf produced; I don't care how close it is. While I'm no longer on the Riders Board, I suggest that there are better things to do with the money that would get spent on a 2nd scarf, if spending the money at all.

Calm down guys, all I said is I wouldn't mind doing two. I understand that the Board would still need to approve it, but I just like the idea. That's all I was saying.

And worse comes to worse, if there's enough interest, I'll do it out of my own money.

Hopefully I can complete this message before my computer restarts this time. Freakin worms!

This is my Fort scarf design.

I wanted to find a theme that would fit the cool logo Evan came up with. Some expressed concerns that it would signal we are a bunch of pickpocketing, rioting ultras if it were on a "Revs Fans" scarf. Since the logo is warlike and "the fort" is warlike, I thought it fit.

The background texture is a stone wall. I really had to tweak it to keep the right color and to eliminate the two other colors that are in the texture. I only wanted the black in the wall to show up. I also wanted it to be subtle. The one problem I had with last year's design is a black background on a navy scarf is tough to make out if the image is too defined. It looked good on a computer image, but you really have to stare to figure out Gillette and Mount Washington are on the scarf.

I really like the "We have not yet begun to fight". We should seriously think about making a banner with that on it.

The blue in the bar design is 125% the size of the white.

All this being said, I'm not sure I want it to win. There are 50 of the old fort scarves ready to be ordered and this one will be redundant and hurt those sales. Keep that in mind when voting. I'll keep this one on file for subsequent years if it doesn't win for that reason. Unfortunently, it might win if the MR scarfs split the vote and a large number of voters don't want a MR scarf.

We'll see.

And as president of the Riders, I'd hope you'd realize how ethically wrong that might be.
