Support a London team. Perferrably Arsenal, Chelsea or Spurs.

Totally agree....I think you shall go with Tottenham (a team with great tradition) but, if you like to win a lot... Chelsea it is. Anyway, the Celtic would beat all of the EPL Teams, thoughts of the Celtic and the Rangers on the Premier has never disappeared.

they are the most successful club in england, also they have the best mifdfielder in the world STEVEN GERRARD!

COME ON YOU REDS!!!

If I am not wrong, the most successful team in modern England is Manchester United and second of all... the greatest midfielder in the entire EPL is called: FRANK LAMPARD! And by the way...Barcelona is going to win the second game 3-1.

Go Barça wooooooo!

Dnt support chelsea which has no history, oh part from the Special one who coaches the team, and a never ending bank account.
Bolton a side who grinds out points with small amount of money. Great Coach.

Go Barça wooooooo!

Now children hand in your tests and I will mark them.

Okay

1. "If I am not wrong the most succesful team in Modern England is Manchester United." - WRONG!

2. "The Greatest midfielder in the entire EPL is called: Frank Lampard." - WRONG!

3. "Barcelona is going to win the second game 3-1" - WRONG!

Living abroad and still choosing to support an SPL club? - WRONG!

-2 out of 3 (2 points deducted for following an SPL club by choice and being a general ********tard.

Must try harder.

Punishment? In a Battle Royale type scenario I am arming you with this Marshmallow. You have 15 minutes to hide in this cardboard box at which time I will send a death squad of 50 rangers fans armed to the teeth with automatic rifles and machetes to find you.

Good luck.

Shouldn't the title of this thread be 'excuses for supporting Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea so I don't look like a glory supporter', or can't a thread title that long fit?

lol - this is actually a cool thread... I have started following footy again after a long hiatus (hey I am Canadian so we love our hockey :) )...I went through a similar thing picking my teams to follow in EPL and Serie A...here was my criteria

- for starters - I dont like any teams that are rich and spend ridiculously to win (ie Yankees, Sox, Maple Leafs, Chelsea) so you can cross off most of the big clubs for me

- i like clubs that try to build through development and young talent however frustrating that may seen sometimes - it pays off (see Ottawa Senators, Edmonton Oilers)

- i didnt want bandwagon team that always wins...drama and struggling is ok - builds character lol

- i wanted the team to at least have a chance to make either of the Euro cups so I can have someone to follow during these things

- need to have black in their kits lol dont laugh ... Palermo? nuff said

- have some exciting players to watch

So - its Newcastle and Udinese for me :)

Nobody seemed to mention Newcastle here - am I missing something LOL?

LOL. Very true...

Although how can you blame Americans for picking one of the big clubs. How much exposure to any of the other clubs do average US fans even have access to? Beyond the EPL, we'll never see any of the other clubs.

Arsenal fans are getting a pretty bad name on this thread. I'll give you my story, it might sound like a story of a true band wagon fan, and you could question my love for The Arsenal, but i know where my heart is.

I first heard the name Arsenal in EURO 2000 as a 10 year old. I took a liking to Thierry Henry and asked which team he played for. After that, did not think much about it. In 2002-2003 was when i watched my first Arsenal game at the house of a family friend, they played with such fantastic style that i have never really seen before, and at that point, i knew they were my favorite team in England. But it was not until 04-05 until i really fell in love with The Arsenal. Yes, i am ashamed to say that i fell in love with this team after the 03/04 season, but you don't get to choose when you fall in love.

I was in Israel visiting my family and it happened to be the day of the Community Shield. The Champions, Arsenal. Against the FA Cup winners, Manchester United. Arsenal won the game 3-1, with Goals from Gilberto and Reyes. I don't know what it was, but i fell in love. Since then, with FSC and the internet, i have missed about 10-12 games weekend games, and will go to almost any extent to watch an Arsenal game. Such as wake up at 4 30, wake up at 6 and make the 40 minute walk to the nearest pub to make the 7am kick off, and skip tests at school to watch Champions League, or mid-week League matches.

I didn't exactly know what i would be getting myself into when i first started supporting Arsenal, but what i now know is that i have a lifetime love for the team in North London. Pretty good being 16 and knowing who the love of your life is :D . I haven't been to any games, but last month i went to new the new Emirates Stadium, my eyes instantly started to tear up when i first got a glimpse of that fine structure. And if i had landed in London 3 hours earlier, i would have been able to make the match between Blackburn and Arsenal.

When people ask me why i like this team so much, i don't have a proper answer, sometimes i like to say that Arsenal picked me, which i guess is true to a certain extent. I will whole-heartedly support them, if they are winning 7-0 versus 'Boro, and when they are losing 2-1 against Barcelona. It hurts watching them lose, but the enjoyment i get after a hard fought win such as against the Mancs at the Emirates, makes up for it.

I guess what i am trying to say is you can't decided one day that you want to start following a club, you can't force yourself into liking a team. It is easy to support your local team, which i do with Beitar Jerusalem, my home-town. And the new San Jose Earthquakes, my current residence. But when you make yourself like a 6000 miles away, it is hard and sometimes a superficial support of the team. I am not saying that all us American posters on BigSoccer are superficial fans, many of us follow our team with as much passion as they do in London, Manchester, and Liverpool. However, some just like the sport of soccer, and follow any team that they think is "cool". Watch a couple of games, give it a couple of season, and one team will ALWAYS catch your eye, and go above all of the rest.
